                                         SENIOR HYDROGEOLOGIST

Location:  Calgary Edmonton

The Senior Hydrogeologist has broad responsibilities. Project work is varied and strong skills in applied hydrogeology and hydrology are essential. Activities include undertaking and managing all aspects of site investigation programs including water resource investigations, mining hydrogeology, oil sands delineation and environmental impact assessments.

This position supports management through development of personnel and team building, which requires active involvement in maintaining quality, focused technical outputs. Strong technical, business development, commercial, interpersonal, and presentation and reporting skills are a must.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

·         Perform project management duties including preparing and negotiating contracts and subcontracts, developing budgets, determining project scope, establishing schedules, assigning project staff, approving invoices, and other duties required to ensure quality and profitability.

·         Coordinate a team of technical experts: Hydrogeologists, Geochemists, Groundwater Modelers, Project Engineers, and Field Technicians.

·         Take a leading role in management of client relationships.

·         Prepare sound technical and commercial proposals.

·         Plan, execute, and supervise field programs for groundwater studies and environmental impact assessments.

·         Undertake investigation and analysis of hydrogeological systems to provide practical, pragmatic client solutions.

·         Be responsible for project management, report writing, and the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of remediation systems. The position will involve some field work within western Canada.

·         Environmental and social impact assessments and audits;

·         Environmental management, planning and regulatory compliance;

·         Environmental site assessment, remediation and reclamation;

·         Environmental monitoring;

·         Hydrology and hydrotechnical engineering; and

·         Overburden characterization and oil sands delineation.

·         Client relationship development

·         Make site visits, and prepare and write technical reports, proposals, and presentations as necessary.

·         Work with clients, business developers, and delivery teams to ensure deliverables meet client needs and expectations.

·         Coach and mentor junior-level staff and Field Technicians.

·         Actively participate in industry congresses through presentations.


Desired Skills Experience

·         At least  8-15 years’ consulting experience as a Hydrogeologist

·         BSc in earth sciences or related subject and MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or associated relevant discipline.

·         Minimum 5 years experience in the Oil Sands and/or Oil Gas sector in western Canada

·         Fluency in English language, with excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills.

·         Expert in at least one consulting field and with recognized technical expertise.

·         Knowledge of 3D modeling and simulation.

·         Field experience in drilling and installation of monitoring wells, piezometers, or pumping wells.

·         Field experience in techniques for pumping tests and data acquisition.

·         Experience in performing and analyzing aquifer hydraulic tests.

·         Experience in design and construction of water wells.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills
