Position: Senior Interim Power Risk Analyst

We are a leading commodities trading company, headquartered in London, with a steadily growing staff pool globally.

Due to continued expansion we are looking for a Senior Risk Analyst to join our Power Risk analysis team in Central London.

THE ASSIGNMENT
This role is for a Power Senior Risk Analyst within the Middle Office Gas, Power, CO2 and LNG unit, involved in day-to-day Middle Office activities, particularly around Power trading activities. 
The role will work closely with a number of other departments, in particular Front Office, IT and Back Office.
The power front office is located in London.

MAIN JOB FUNCTION
The job holder will be responsible for:
- Performing day-to-day middle office activities related to power trading;
- assisting in providing the Company with the capability to value, monitor and risk manage a range of traded power markets;
- dealing with ad hoc requests related to risk analytics for power trading, and the whole of Gas, Power, CO2, LNG Middle Office in general.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
- Work with Power Front Office to continue developing the power trading business;
- perform all Middle Office functions including calculation of daily PL, curves and deal entry validation, risk monitoring (VaR);
- where appropriate, assist in development of infrastructure (IT and other) to support the Power Middle Office; develop curve construction methodologies in association with Front Office, in order to have forward price curves needed to re-evaluate the positions (with emphasis on illiquid markets);
- Carry out analysis on power markets as necessary and maintain a good knowledge of market conditions through the use of provided tools;
- Maintain a good knowledge of risk metrics and develop VaR models;
- Perform VaR back-testing and sensitivity analysis:
- Structure VaR reports;
- Manage ad hoc risk analysis;
- Monitor procedural compliance, identify and document process opportunities;
- Interface with Front Office for new products analysis;
- Interface with IT to develop and update Middle Office systems;
- Contribute to new business initiatives, systems or process improvement projects;
- Share expertise in the team;
- Perform monthly and quarterly account closing and reconciliation activities;
- Assist and participate in all internal and external audit work.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS:
- strong academic credentials with a numeracy-oriented specialization, preferably in Mathematics, Physics, Finance or quantitative discipline;
- solid knowledge of the subject and relevant experience in trading environment are compulsory;
- experience of 2-4 years in power risk management / middle office is mandatory;
- strong knowledge and understanding of the power markets, the financial/physical instruments commonly used for risk management. 
- Experience/understanding of gas, power, emissions and physical oil are also beneficial;
- strong Excel skills with macros and VBA knowledge and working experience with ENDUR;

- working knowledge of MO suite.

LOCATION
- Central London;
- Role may require business travel within the UK and abroad, in particular Europe.
