Senior International Tax Analyst recruitment

On their behalf we manage portfolios focusing on equity, fixed income, currencies, commodities, real assets, and active asset allocation, including hedge fund portfolios.
As part of continued expansion, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Tax Analyst in London. Reporting to the Director of International Tax, responsibilities for this position will include:
* Monitoring changes in foreign tax laws and assisting in the analysis of its application to clients, Wellington's sponsored products and Wellington itself;
* Researching specific technical tax issues, instructing overseas advisers where appropriate and monitoring and testing the output;
* Assisting senior International Tax personnel in key long term projects;
* Drafting or updating internal tax policies and procedures;
* Assisting with tax analyses for new office openings, new markets and investments;
* UK tax planning and issue spotting for senior UK based personnel. Keeping abreast of changes in UK personal tax law and applying these to Wellington and its UK employees;
* EU VAT - analyzing the VAT treatment of supplies made by the Wellington group. Monitoring changes in EU VAT law. Minimising irrecoverable VAT and maximizing VAT reclaims;
* Assisting in the negotiation of investment management agreements;
* General international tax advice, e.g. double tax treaty analysis, permanent establishment issues (including the UK's investment manager exemption), spotting US tax issues, withholding taxes etc;
* Assisting with the analysis of new fund launches, where required. Miscellaneous funds work, including application of the EUSD, UK offshore fund and bond fund rules;
* Seeking out tax issues/opportunities for clients, funds and Wellington itself - from prudent risk management to optimization;
* Raising the tax profile within Wellington through pro-active interaction with the appropriate business teams.
The successful candidate is likely to:
* Be a UK qualified lawyer or accountant;
* Have 5-10 years of relevant professional experience, gained with an international law firm, Big 4 accounting firm or blue chip financial services organisation;
* Demonstrate excellent technical tax ability, with an international bias (including some US), and some funds experience;
* Demonstrate considerable knowledge of UK personal tax issues and planning;
* Be a team player, with a commitment to high quality work;
* Demonstrate excellent organization and communication skills, coupled with commercial acumen.
