Senior Systems Engineer – MCSE / MCITP
Location: Tunbridge Wells
Salary: £32-35k
The department is responsible for the use of Information Technology, computer systems and electronic communications throughout the practice and where appropriate to clients. This includes the installation of software and hardware, the development of new systems to meet business requirements and the support of existing users in all aspects of technology relating to the practice.
WORKING HOURS
Hours vary to cover shift 8:00 to 18:15 Monday to Friday (additional hours may be required)
MAIN DUTIES
• Responsible for each of the computer rooms including the spares rooms. This includes requirements specification for additional cabling required and ensuring that the network diagrams are updated on a regular basis
• Administer all backup system’s to include daily checks, performance monitoring, and documentation. Ensure periodic data restores are carried out for testing purposes
• Administer the IP telephony system including creation of users, voice mailboxes, pickup groups and PC call handling software
• Helpdesk responsibility, overseeing the back office job queues, handling escalated calls from the front office team.
• Assist the Systems Manager with the administration and support of the systems and technical infrastructure, including;
• new server builds / maintenance of existing;
• software installation and updates;
• hardware, network and application configuration;
• service pack upgrades and software upgrades;
• new pc image build and maintenance of images;
• security protection;
• server housekeeping / general maintenance;
• server administration;
• group policy administration;
• active directory administration;
• creation and maintenance of systems documentation.
• Keep abreast of technical market trends and moves with a view to their relevancy to the firm, making proposals where necessary.
• Provide professional, efficient and accurate response to any user wishing to report a fault, problem or seeking information or advice, by providing telephone support as appropriate. Where necessary pass calls to other team members within the IT Team in a timely fashion, to ensure minimum user downtime. This may include floor walking or desk side support as necessary.
• Ensure that IT Management are made aware of any issues which require escalation.
• Follow all IT procedures as laid down in documented manuals and assist with the compilation of any technical documentation, procedures and policies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of existing and new technologies in use within the practice and ensure adequate understanding is achieved of the activities and procedures within your assigned areas of support.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience within a professional environment – minimum two years
• Proven track record of IT projects for more than 100 staff
• Experience to match the requirements of the particular position
• Accustomed to dealing with clients, partners, fee earners and other support staff at all levels in person and on the telephone as appropriate to the level of the post.
• Accustomed to delivering work to deadlines
• Accustomed to working without close supervision
• Able to demonstrate confidentiality and integrity
• Accustomed to dealing with suppliers – advantageous but not essential
QUALIFICATIONS
• A general standard of education appropriate for the post, ideally MCSE/MCITP qualified
• Experience of Windows Server systems, SCCM, SQL Server, Exchange Server, Network Architecture and Security would be preferable
• Experience of leading a small technical team would be advantageous but not essential
