For more information, visit www.cargill.com . Description Horizon Milling is a joint venture between Cargill and CHS, Inc. flour milling, with Cargill as the majority owner and managing member. Horizon Milling operates mills in the United States and Canada that grind durum wheat, spring wheat, hard winter wheat and soft winter wheat into flours. We produce bakery mix products for sale to retail and commercial bakeries, food manufacturers and retailers, government agencies and the export market. Our products are sold in bulk and also packaged for branded and private label. Operations are located in Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York, Louisiana, Kansas, Texas, Utah and California, United States and Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan, Canada. Position Overview: This position supports the division wheat analytical lab by performing analysis including, but not limited to, wet chemistry, experimental milling and baking, and bio-chemical analysis of wheat and the products of wheat flour milling. This position is responsible for sample prioritization, calibration, and preventative maintenance of lab equipment, and daily review of data for accuracy. Primary focus will be the calibration, maintenance and operation of Leco Protein Analyzer. This individual will be responsible for timely and accurate communication of results to internal customers (including Operations, Quality Management, Technical Service, Merchandising and Technology). The Senior Lab technician must have the ability to work with a sense of urgency. They must interpret the data to explain the significance of the results, and when inaccuracies are noted, proactively identify the cause and take steps to resolve the issues. The Senior Lab Technician will assist the Supervisor with onboarding, training, and mentoring new employees, as needed. This individual must have the ability to use statistical software - JMP, SAS in order to design experiments and analyze data. The Senior Lab Technician will be expected to support select Research and Development activities, which may include evaluating new technologies, and/or developing new methods that better serve our customers needs. Principal Accountabilities: 40% - Lead daily prioritization of incoming test samples. Analyze wheat flour performance using wet chemistry, experimental milling and baking techniques, and bio-chemical analysis 20% - Timely data analysis, interpretation and communication of results to customers (Formula Planning, Quality, Facility Managers, Sales, Merchandising, RD and industry organizations) 15% - Develop and maintain databases 10% - Ensure routine calibration and maintenance in order to maintain accuracy of test equipment (principal focus on Leco Protein Analyzer) 10% - Assist with design, management and execution of special projects 5% - Assist in other areas as needed Qualifications Required: Bachelors Degree in a Scientific Minimum 3 years experience in related industry Effective communications skills (written, verbal, and listening) Proficient laboratory techniques Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously Well organized and detail oriented Ability to take off-hours calls/weekend on-call responsibilities Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Baking, Milling Science or Food Science Experience calibrating, using and maintaining Leco Protein Analyzer Must be able to report results in written and in oral presentations to cross-functional audiences Cargill is an EEO/AA employer.
