The Division of Facilities Planning at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking applications for a Senior Laboratory Planner. This three-year appointment, with possibility for extension, will be responsible for coordinating University laboratory space utilization directives of Facilities Planning with other Administration and Finance areas, Academic Affairs, and Research and Engagement areas. The Senior Laboratory Planner is also responsible for conveying the technical aspects of user needs to Facilities Planning; coordinating and supervising placement/relocation of research equipment and biological/chemical materials; overseeing management of assets for estimating costing; developing laboratory standards and reviewing laboratory designs. This includes consulting and acting as a resource for all parties to efficiently utilize University space during renovations or construction and fit out of new space.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in the life or physical sciences. Demonstrated knowledge of the life and physical sciences research disciplines. More than five years’ experience in configuring laboratory layouts, procurement of equipment, service contracting, as well as technical experience supporting research in a university setting. General understanding of mechanical, electrical and plumbing building requirements for scientific research, equipment and environmental controls. General knowledge of architectural and construction terms and processes. Ability to access any portion of a construction site/facility, including working at heights and in confined spaces. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite software. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills needed to serve a diverse campus community. Strong oral and written skills also required.
Hiring Salary Range: $42,900 – $54,300*
Normal Starting Salary Range: $42,900 – $48,600
*For exceptional candidates, consideration may be given up to $60,000
