Senior Manager – Mergers & Acquisition (M&A) recruitment

Our MA and Commercial Finance organisation is responsible for delivery of finance solutions for all New Business Development, MA, Structured Finance and Portfolio activities (“Transactions”) at Shell. 

As a Senior Manager, your role will be to lead the financial aspects of complex transactions at Shell, deliver functional improvement, and to coach and develop peers and junior staff. The successful candidate will be a member of the leadership team in London, manage a team of 3 to 5 professional staff, and will oversee delivery of a portfolio of projects. 

You will help shape Shell´s growth aspirations, in particular for our Downstream business, and originate business development opportunities. 

Primary Accountabilities

• Lead the finance aspects of complex MA transactions and be responsible for managing the finance team on the project, providing business critical finance advice, support and challenge from an early stage, managing external service providers on transactions (both Investment Banks and Big-4 service providers), leading negotiations, and manage regular interactions with decision makers 

• For certain projects, act as the Finance representative to project decision making bodies. 

• Help building an origination capability, and provide expertise and advice to New Business Development projects. Such activities may be regionally focused, or more generally on Downstream initiatives.

• Provide finance expertise to (re-) structuring and (re-) financing of Operating Units or Ventures

• Responsible for valuation and project economics, ensuring consistency and standardisation in methodologies and assumptions Perform negotiations on financial aspects of deals. 

• Negotiate agreements with partners, customers or other external stakeholders. Support planning, structuring and negotiating corporate and project financing transactions.

• Participate in valuation and project peer reviews. Liaise with other functional areas across the Shell Group, including Tax, Treasury, Controllers, Business Finance and Legal.

• Arrange and organize the required internal governance approvals from Shell Holding Companies to support business requirements.

• As a thought leader in transactions, remain up to date with external developments and trends and share these with the MA team and project teams.

• Manage a team of 3-5 MA managers and analysts with varying degrees of experience. Provide on the job coaching and active development support.  

Experience and Qualifications

• An in-depth number of years of experience working in an investment bank as manager, deal captain and originator, preferably in Oil Gas deal making

• A recognized finance qualification• Excellent communication and analytical skills, outstanding commercial acumen and the ability to operate within a dynamic rapidly changing environment

 • Proven economic and financial modeling experience • Proven ability to lead teams/projects and deliver results

• Proven ability to identify, mobilise and coordinate/manage  resources (both internal and external) as required

• Proven ability to work across boundaries with strong cultural awareness.

• Track record in establishing credibility at the relevant level with management inside and outside project teams

• Demonstrated ability to develop others and to effectively capture and share knowledge/expertise 

• The applicant should be prepared to handle periods of peak work pressure and extensive travel when required
