Senior Manager, Business Services Risk, Group Operations recruitment

My client is a leading global banking organisation with retail, corporate banking and markets businesses. They have identified the need for experienced retail SME’s with operational experience in areas such as payments, KYC, AML, core and off-shore collections, ATM account reconciliations and more.

Previous risk experience is not essential for these positions. SME experience in the relevant business functions is most important.

Specifically there are four streams of experience required for three positions:

• Group services requirements – Knowledge of KYC processes and AML (sanctions, trade filtering, implementation of global AML operations).

• Retail banking operations requirements – ATM account reconciliations, cash and coin operations, core and off-shore collections, mortgage and loan processing, card issuing.

• Transaction services requirements – Electronic inward / outward manual payments, trade bonds guarantees, commercial cards, contact card centres, chaps bacs, settlements.

• Supply chain management requirements – Experience managing 3rd party suppliers.

As an SME in these individual areas you will be expected to go in to your relevant area of expertise and challenge senior management on their risk appetite. The purpose of this is to help create a strong control framework to be able to reduce risk across the business. You will be expected to develop and maintain direct and proactive relationships with key individuals in the Division and Group Risk.

The role holder will be required to influence and manage complex matrix management structures to ensure a coordinated implementation of the risk management framework and processes.

They will also be a key point of contact with senior executives in Group Operations, aligned to all matters relating to risk demonstrating an ability to flex resource to move quickly to manage hot spots.

Key deliverables:

• Attend senior management meetings and risk committees and champion continuous improvement of risk management and control processes across Group Operations.

• Provide risk advice and guidance for new product/service developments and associated work processes supporting operational and regulatory requirements in domestic and global markets.

• Provide advice to the business on complex operational and regulatory risk issues spanning a variety of products and services across multiple business lines, legal entities, and/or geographic regions.

• Demonstrate a holistic approach when responding to current issues, predicting future developments and assessing risk appetite.

• Identify areas for focus and enhancements to risk management and the implementation of mitigating strategies for areas of exposure and/or for ongoing compliance.

• Support development and implementation of the Divisional Operational and Regulatory Risk Management framework and standards to incorporate the identification, evaluation, mitigation and monitoring of operational risks across Group Operations and the wider Business Services.

• Ensure the business ownership of risk and policy compliance is understood and applied across Group Operations working with the business functions to ensure a control culture is embedded in the business.

• Represent Business Services at key internal and external events/committees; ensure knowledge transfer of developments from these external events and committees to the business and to Risk colleagues.

• Escalate high end operational risk issues to Chief Risk Officer Risk, Business Services.

• Proactively contribute towards the training, development and reward approach across Risk, Business Services.

• Proactively lead the embedding of Lean principles across Risk, Business Services.

Candidate requirements:

• Relevant experience as highlighted at the top of the page.

• Candidate can come from Operations, Compliance or Payments business functions within retail / corporate banking, but must have relevant SME experience highlighted above.

• Experience operating at a senior level and challenging senior stakeholders.

• Detailed understanding of  processing risks and controls in relation to retail banking.
