Senior Manager, Labor Relations
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Labor Relations and Human Resources Department in union related matters, in both union and non-union settings. This includes the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, grievance investigations, grievance resolution, arbitration preparation, preliminary responses to unfair labor practice charges and union awareness training. Frequent independent judgment is essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:
- Negotiate collective bargaining agreements in accordance with the National Labor Relations ACT (NLRA).
- Manage administration of exisiting collective bargaining agreements, respond to Union requests for information, and advise HRMs, store and field management on labor-related issues, including the interpretation and enforcement of existing labor agreements.
- Resolve grievances to ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
- Provide support to field and store management with regard to grievances; and to in-house and outside counsel for arbitrations and NLRB matters; to include the investigation of grievances, coordinate and preside over grievance hearings, draft grievance responses, and engage in grievance settlement negotiations and draft settlement agreements (under the supervision of legal counsel).
- Manage preparation for collective bargaining, including partnering with field leadership and finance for development of contract proposals, analysis of existing contract clauses, and prepare preliminary recommendations for contract changes through the drafting of proposed contract language
- Coordinate the implementation and execution of contract and grievance settlement agreements to include instructions for payroll and benefits departments on contract or settlement administration.
- Meet with union representatives regarding day-to-day labor relations matters.
- Provide support for organizing campaigns, under the supervision of counsel, including working with field and store management on communications and assisting with elections and other Board-related matters.
- Develop and implement union awareness materials and training for field and store management to assure compliance with NLRA.
- Prepare materials and conduct training for field and store management on Union Awareness/Campaigns.
- Prepare materials and conduct training for field and store management on contract administration /managing in a union environment
- Provide support for responding to unfair labor practice charges.
- Investigate and respond to unfair labor practice charges to remain in compliance with NLRA.
- Compose letters, memos and reports and distribute as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has indirect supervisory duties with field and other departments on Labor issue and directly supervises the Manager, Labor Relations and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Rite Aid policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, rewarding, and disciplining associates; appraising associate performance; and resolving complaints.

- Knowledge of National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)

- Knowledge of Employment Laws in addition to National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Paralegal Studies, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field, plus eight (8) years' of experience in a union environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
