Senior Manager of Business Development – WM Organic Growth Group
In our new technology incubator organization the WM Organic Growth Group, Waste Management has an opportunity for a Senior Manager of Business Development. The Senior Manager is responsible for business development activities including identifying new market opportunities for products, services and technologies. Researches competitive markets and identifies new opportunities and creates appropriate business plans. Monitors organization's market share and competition. Develops and executes business plan related to prospecting and closing sales to achieve budgeted revenue growth goals and drive internal value to the organization. Works closely with WM internal constituents to cultivate existing accounts and initiate new account implementations. Presents marketing and development recommendations to senior management.
- Manages prospects by developing sound marketing plans and maintaining key information in the prospect database.
- Responsibility for building and maintaining sales pipeline to achieve goals for new sales.
- Engages customers by matching services with customer needs and demonstrating knowledge of customers, pricing and competition; effectively communicates pricing and service strategies; proactively engages other Waste Management business opportunities.
- Identifies partner suppliers and maintains a database of potential projects based on competitive market analysis.
- Interfaces with WM business segment partners to resolve unique customer issues.
- Reviews feasibility studies to evaluate current and potential infrastructure, competitive pricing, permitting and operational conditions. Provides recommendations on strategy based on evaluations.
- Responsible for establishing and growing a network of contacts in the assigned industry /service line to identify potential projects.
- Prepares proposals to third parties and follows through with contract negotiations.
- Maintains current knowledge of external market trends, current sustainability topics issues, internal sale strategies and operational capabilities.
- Develops and delivers effective customized sales presentations and proposals and supports on-going marketing efforts for existing and proposed projects.
- Solicits grant funding from partners and other sources. Reviews potential grants and oversees grant approval and execution process.
- Promotes outreach activities to partners at trade shows and conferences.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise market or financial analysts and/or may be regularly responsible for assigning activities to other employees who perform work that is similar or closely related to this job.
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Environmental Science, Sustainability or "Green" Curriculum is required. A Master's Degree in those concentrations is preferred.
7 years experience in marketing and /or business development in the services industry is required and experience in waste or energy industry related field is preferred.
Proven experience developing relations and opportunities is key.
