Macquarie's business is structured into six operating groups and four service groups. The Financial Management Group (FMG) provides financial, tax and treasury services to all areas of Macquarie.
The group is focused on three key outcomes:
- managing the Macquarie balance sheet and profit loss optimally and strategically
- adding value to Macquarie's senior management and its businesses by providing advice and analysis that is strategic, timely, accurate and comprehensive
- ensuring Macquarie continues to meet the obligations within its regulatory and compliance framework
The Group Treasury division has an opportunity for a Senior Manager to join the Transactions team in Sydney. In this role you will develop Macquarie's corporate and capital/funding structure, and will assist with developing and executing financing and investment transactions globally. This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly commercial tax advisor to leverage their experience into a role that involves implementing transactions, and not just advising on them.
You will be responsible for:
- Identifying the type of capital best suited to meet Macquarie's needs (for example, hybrid capital or ordinary capital) having regard to its cost and regulatory requirements, and where necessary raising capital from the market.
- Working with business units to structure transactions including acquisitions and disposals of businesses, so as to manage the impact on our balance sheet and maximise returns to Macquarie.
- Analysing and developing Macquarie's corporate and capital/funding structure. In particular the role would encompass identifying areas for improvement and facilitating structural change to cater for international growth as well as responding to changes in the regulatory environment.
- Evaluating various debt and equity funding opportunities for the Macquarie Group.
- Where applicable, liaising with external counterparties and advisers in fulfilling the above responsibilities.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- University degree(s) in Commerce/Economics/Business, including as part of a combined Law degree.
- Experience in professional services and/or financial services including at least some work in the area of Australian taxation law.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
- Experience advising on corporate transactions and structures in a professional services environment.
- A keen interest in and understanding of the banking and financial services industry and associated legal/regulatory environment.
