A123 is seeking an experienced manufacturing test engineer with a strong background in test system specification and development. The candidate will be working in a fast paced environment developing advanced test systems for A123s Grid Battery Systems product line. The position will require strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work cross-functionally and manage competing priorities.
Position Overview
- Design and document production test fixtures for A123 battery systems
- Capture functional and performance requirements for test platforms
- Develop test fixture cost estimates and project schedules
- Manage vendor relationships and expectations
- Write and execute production test plans and procedures
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides manufacturing support relating to test software debugging and test hardware design.
- Reviews documentation (i.e., engineering specifications and schematics) to confirm that new products comply with manufacturings automated test requirements
- Collaborates with manufacturing engineering ensuring that changes to current procedures are implemented in a timely manner
- Compile, evaluate and prepare technical analysis of production test data
- Recommend corrective action for procedures, processes or product deficiencies
- Supports manufacturing methods and processes required to meet design objectives on new or improved products
- Establish routine maintenance schedules and recommend periodic upgrades of test equipment and fixtures
- Serve as a liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing concerning the development of assembly and test procedures
- Selects and manages supplier activities and timelines for outsourced hardware
- Strong working knowledge of general manufacturing engineering practices, component reliability and design for manufacturability tradeoffs
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, diplomacy and a team-oriented work ethic
- Experience in development of automated functional test processes, hardware and software
- Experience in in-circuit test (ICT) development
Education/Experience
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 8-10 years test engineering experience in new product development
- Experience with industrial PCs, PLCs and microcontroller based embedded firmware systems
- Competency with National Instruments LabView tools
- Demonstrated history of delivering quality products to market
- Working knowledge of communications protocols, such as CAN, Modbus, and RS-232
- Hardware design experience preferred
- Understanding of quality control measures as applied to high volume commercial product manufacturing
- Experience with battery systems and power management a plus
- Familiarity with configuration management systems desired
