SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER
A world class EPCM firm is looking to fill a strategic role within the Mining and Metallurgy Group. They are an international leader in consulting, design, engineering and construction of processing and infrastructure facilities for the mining industry. As a multi-disciplined organization, they can undertake every stage of mining project development from scoping studies and metallurgical test work, to feasibility analysis and final design, to construction and commissioning. They have carried out over 350 projects worldwide in the fields of alumina/aluminum, copper, gold, diamonds, zinc, potash, iron ore and nickel including some of the largest projects ever undertaken in the industry.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be required to work with our client's layout and Mechanical Groups to provide primary engineering and calculations for mining projects. In support of this role the candidate will at times be responsible for conceptual design, preparation and review of relevant documentation, and the guidance of designers and draftsmen. Also crucial will be the ability to coordinate with other disciplines to ensure a timely and accurate flow of design information throughout the Project, while ensuring departmental and client standards are maintained. Other responsibilities may include; design reviews and drawing checking, and non-project tasks such as the maintenance and revision of department standards and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Prepare detailed design calculations and analysis for mechanical process equipment, vessels, material handling and/or conveying systems (using applicable software)
- Prepare technical and other project specifications
- Coordinate mechanical work with work of other engineering disciplines
- Coordinate and direct the work of mechanical designers and draftspersons
- Prepare proposals, feasibility studies, reports and preliminary design
- Prepare conceptual and detailed design calculations, layouts and sketches
- Investigate field problems and prepare reports
- Site visits and inspections
- Provide technical guidance to co-workers
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in related field and P.Eng registration
- Previous mining metallurgy and/or process plant experience
- Knowledge of the design, fabrication, installation, operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment used in mining/industrial/oil gas industries
- Proven expertise using SmartPlant is preferred
- Solid understanding of computer applications for engineering design
- Solid knowledge of applicable standards, codes and requirements
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills are mandatory.
