Precision Task Group is having a Direct Hire Opportunity with our client in Houston, TX for the Sr. Network Engineer role.
Title: Sr. Network Engineer
General Summary
The primary duty of the Sr. Network Engineer is to ensure the reliable operation of Clients voice and data network in order to provide maximum performance and availability for the system users. The Sr. Network Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance and support of LAN, WAN, and Voice-over-IP infrastructure at all Clients facilities. The Sr. Network Engineer provides in-depth technical support for voice and data network systems, creates and maintains network documentation, maintains hardware and software standards, and works projects as needed in order to upgrade to new and/or improved communication equipment and procedures. The Sr. Network Engineer must be well versed in the advanced engineering and administration of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices and network management systems. This position requires excellent problem management and customer service skills.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
· Serves as the senior technical authority on network infrastructure hardware and software and its effective application at Clients facilities.
· Installs and configures new network infrastructure hardware, software, peripherals, and services in accordance with current IT standards.
· Monitors the Client’s network infrastructure and related systems for performance and integrity. Ensures that all systems are kept current with regard to patch levels, software revisions, and feature sets.
· Leads network troubleshooting and problem resolution efforts, including performing root-cause analysis and disseminating lessons learned among IT staff.
· Recommends changes to the Client’s infrastructure, IT systems, policy and procedures in accordance with industry best practices and current technology trends.
· Serves as principle technical liaison between the IT department and third-party contractors and consultants.
· Provides technical input to the Client’s IT disaster recovery and business continuity plans, and participates in both disaster recovery testing and execution.
· Performs other duties as specified by IT management.
Job Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or MIS and a minimum of seven years of experience and progressive responsibility in the IT field. Equivalent exceptional experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
· Recent, relevant experience must include the following at an advanced or expert level:
- Network infrastructure hardware and software including Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls
- Experience in the installation and configuration of Virtual Private Network (VPN) systems
- IP address scheme creation, management, and maintenance
- Experience in LAN, WAN and MAN environments
- Experience in network security including intrusion prevention and detection
- Creation and enforcement of network security standards and practices
- Network performance monitoring and problem resolution
- Experience in project management of complex network installations or renovations
· Current Cisco CCNA or higher certification
· Excellent communications skills
Preferred skills:
- Current Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Experience with Cisco Network Access Control (NAC)
- Experience with Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls
- Experience in a team leadership role
Work is typically sedentary, but may required standing and walking for up to 70% of work time. Work will require some lifting and carrying of heavy objects and climbing Client’s cranes where IT has installed equipment.
