Senior Network Engineer/Architect

Summary

Provide engineering leadership and oversight on design, engineering and development of information technology solutions.  Responsible for the most complex multi-site and multi-domain integration activities.  Manage the troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure compatibility issues based on system architecture, project requirements and customer expectations.  Partner with IT leadership on engineering related issues and strategies.  May manage infrastructure engineers on a project basis.  Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least 5, typically 8 or more years experience in all phases of infrastructure network management or its equivalent in education and work experience.

Responsibilities

·         Network Architecture Strategy, Data and Voice Services, Network Operations and Support, Contact Center Services and Business Services.

·         Translate business needs into technical solutions and demonstrate leadership in the adoption of advanced network solutions.

·         Design IP network, Internet access network, and IP routing architectures; plan and design network solutions of a high degree of complexity.

·         Develop and communicate engineering standards and procedures; ensure that standards and procedures are in accordance with Service Level Agreements.

·         Identify opportunities available with evolving network technologies. Focus on evolving standards in the telecommunications industry and assess the financial and business impact.

·         Provide guidance, support and training to other team members.

·         Provide 3rd and 4th level support; technical troubleshooting.

·         Manage deliverables and provide technical expertise to key projects.

·         Contribute to management practices, standards, guidelines and processes.

·         Prepare technology documentation as it relates to business needs.

·         Champion major RD technology pilots.

Qualifications

·         Bachelors Degree or higher strongly preferred in Computer Science or Engineering and/or a minimum of 5 years of experience in all aspects of Network Infrastructure, and exposure to other information technologies.

·         Minimum of either CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) or JNCIP (Juniper Networks Certified Internetworking Professional) certification.

·         Preferred CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert) and/or JNCIE (Juniper Networks Certified Internetworking Expert) certification.

·         Advanced knowledge of layer-2 network design and protocols including Frame-Relay, ATM, Ethernet, and SONET.

·         Advanced knowledge of security protocols and implementations including IPSec, NAT, and ACLs.

·         Advanced knowledge of content delivery/application availability using load balancing technologies.

·         Advanced knowledge of routed and routing protocols including OSPF, ISIS, BGP, Multicast, RSVP/LDP, and MPLS in a Service Provider environment.

·         ITIL Certification is an asset.

·         Ability to discuss and demonstrate technical problem resolution techniques.

·         Ability to conceptualize unique or novel approaches that change conventional thinking and create new strategic options.

·         Ability to visualize new applications of existing knowledge that lead directly to important new business opportunities.

·         Ability to establish new standards for quality, performance and productivity.

·         Ability to develop new techniques, methods or practices, and apply them to create new solutions.

·         Excellent written and oral communications skills, i.e., the ability to translate business requirements into coherent long term strategies.

·         Management focus with the ability to achieve results in a matrix organization, with no direct accountability for staff.
