Senior Network Systems Engineer Job in Ottawa, Ontario Canada
We are currently hiring two Senior Network Engineers to join our team in Kanata.
The successful candidate responsibilities include: set up, configure, and support internal and/or external networks. Develop and maintain all systems, applications, security, and network configurations. Troubleshoot network performance issues, create and maintain a disaster recovery plan. Recommend upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment. Provide technical support and guidance to users. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty and 8-10 years of experience in the field or in a related area. May provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist. Lead and direct the work of others.
Specific Responsibilities
- Performs expert level network and server administration functions, including configuring, installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading hardware and operating systems.
- Installs, customizes, configures, troubleshoots, tests and optimizes very complex network software and physical infrastructure designs
- Conduct expert level network systems troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems and provide assistance to the network administrator.
- Reviews designs prior to implementation of security solutions, including elements such as end user roles and groups, trust relationships, access rights, and directories
- Performs expert analysis of network and system resource utilization and implements solutions to correct problems to ensure all applications are accessible and functioning properly.
- Identifies and explores new technologies that could advance the infrastructure to improve performance, reliability and availability
- Reviews plans with junior staff prior to installation of hardware upgrades for servers, gateways, appliances, and associated devices
- Performs expert level troubleshooting to identify and resolve complex network problems
- Reviews analysis and participates in implementation planning for new applications, as needed
- Conform to Ciena IT change management guidelines.
- Makes recommendations for improvement to Ciena IT change management guidelines.
- Provide reports/information to Internal Audit as requested.
- Work with key business users to understand the business requirements and potential solutions within the current architecture.
- Lead medium-to-large scale tasks or small-to-medium projects efficiently, on time and within budget, using appropriate resources of time, funds and person.
- As a task or project leader, assign and monitor the work of junior staff in order to deliver high-quality work in a timely manner to project manager or client
- Simplify technical jargon so that it is easily understood by the audience
Candidate Profile
- Expert Security and Network management understanding, including Group Policy Objects, Active Directory management, DNS and LDAP, together with expansion in the use of utilities addressing Access Management
- Highly organized self-starter with an eye for detail who can maintain multiple ongoing projects simultaneously
- Entrepreneurial, flexible attitude with ability to work well in ambiguous, changing situations and reprioritize work accordingly
- Function independently with minimal direction to drive a project to execution
- Perform data analysis and problem solving along with reporting of recommendation and results to management team
- Strong interpersonal and clear communication skills (verbal and written)
- Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Expert Active Directory, DHCP and DNS Administration skills.
- Expert understanding of TCP/IP Protocol.
- Advanced Storage Experience an advantage (SAN/NAS Brocade/NetApp)
- Experience Supporting Unix and Linux Systems in a heterogeneous networked environment
- Expert troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
- Professional written and oral communication skills
- Professional organizational and documentation skills.
- A sustained ability to execute on critical projects with accelerated schedules and manage demands with frequent changes or delays.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively as part of a team
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or eight to ten years demonstrated technical network experience may be substituted in lieu of degree
- Candidates must have eight years in Systems and Network Administration and demonstrated experience with administration of Microsoft Active Directory,VMware, SAN/NAS platforms, Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 Servers
