Senior Oil Refinery Market Analyst recruitment
Role synopsis:
This front office role involves liaising with various business units and external consultants to collate and analyse market information and work closely with market-facing traders to drive successful trading strategy. The goal is to identify changes in supply and demand fundamentals and communicate the likely impact on price action to the trading benches in a timely fashion - this will help drive continued growth in trading profits. Cross Bench Analysts work closely with Bench Analysts and Traders across all benches to help inform successful trading strategies, including delivering and co-ordinating key cross bench projects. They also ensure that our marketing activity is supported. Some Cross Bench Analysts also take accountability for the creation of TAR reports. This involves tracking refinery events, maintaining a database of refinery information, creating reports and providing ad hoc information to the Trading Benches.
Key accountabilities:
- Drive useful and insightful analysis across global Trading Books in their region
- Work closely with Cross bench, Bench and Lead Analysts to share knowledge and meet common objectives
- Identify and test opportunities for analysis that will support the commodity lines in their region
- Support the continuing development of the Analytics infrastructure
- Conduct macro analysis, including the assessment of refinery capacity expansion and implications for the market call. In some cases, conduct issue based analysis, including monitoring all refinery data, maintaining TAR databases and run cuts
- Provide analytical support, derivative marketing and Regional Origination Teams by providing market forecasts and analysis
- Collaborate effectively across the Global Book with Bench Analysts, other Cross Bench Analysts, Traders and Shipping to create alignment and promote better connectivity in the Analytics community
- Continually solicit requests for ad hoc analysis
Essential experience and job requirements:
- A strong knowledge of the refining sector and ability to analyse consequences and drivers of capacity expansion
- Understanding of commodities price theory including the fundamental drivers for supply, demand, trade flows and prices especially in the downstream segment
- Experience in modelling and forecasting East-West refined product flows following changes in refining capacity.
- Knowledge of LP models and their use to forecast market fundamentals.
- Experience in a position closely related to a downstream environment.
- Previous experience in refining.
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills that enable regular communications in the appropriate style for a multinational and multicultural audience.
- Is a keen team member with a strong appreciation for the benefits of effective collaboration within the Analytics community
- Is a self motivated and driven person with a desire to work in a market leading analytics service.
Desirable criteria qualifications: Strong academic background in related fields
