CentralNic is seeking candidates for a position based in its City of London head office. The position is for a Senior Operations Engineer, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer.

The Position

You will be a senior member of the team that develops and maintains CentralNic's domain name registry system, and the infrastructure that supports it. We maintain extremely demanding service levels on services operating at high levels of load. Your focus will be on application deployment, system and network administration, and network maintenance and development.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintenance and management of the company's server estate
  2. Maintenance, development and monitoring of network infrastructure
  3. Development and maintenance of administration policies and processes
  4. Occasional third-line technical support
  5. Occasional out-of-hours maintenance and emergency response

Skills Required

Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, and routing technologies such as BGP is essential, as is knowledge of Unix/Linux system administration (specifically Red Hat Enterprise Linux or CentOS). Familiarity with the DNS, DNS servers such as BIND, NSD, PowerDNS, and DNSSEC are highly desirable, as is experience of monitoring and analytics tools such as Munin, Nagios and MRTG.

Candidates must have effective communication and team-working skills, and good written and spoken English. Fluency in another language is also desirable.

Experience Required

You should have at least two year's experience of managing and/or operating an IP network in a commercial environment. Knowledge of software development in Perl, PHP, and/or C on Unix/Linux systems is also essential as you will be required to support and deploy applications written in these languages. Knowledge of the RPM package format is also desirable.

Salary

The expected range for this position is £35,000 - £50,000 plus benefits. CentralNic will pay a salary commensurate with age and experience.
