European Insurance giant is currently looking for a Senior Platform engineer with experience in architecture and engineering to perform the role of SME and spearhead and manage large transformation through an exciting period of change within the company.
Purpose of the role

Key Accountabilities
In order to ensure that the infrastructure solutions are appropriately aligned, the role carries a significant number of key accountabilities:
-Act as the Technical Design Authority for all aspects of Midrange Servers (UNIX and iSeries) and Storage as part of the infrastructure migration old to new business initiatives
-Creation and Ownership of the relevant aspects of the company Infrastructure Service Catalogue including creation of:
oRolling 3-year roadmap
oBuy / Hold / Sell list
oApproving exceptions to standards and creating/enforcing delivery of mitigation plans
-In conjunction with Managed Service Providers (MSP's), Engineering of solutions and standards to enable the company to provide solutions that are fit for purpose, sized appropriately, cost effective, and are in line with good industry practise
-Technical vendor management: delivering through MSP's to deliver appropriate solutions for our business. Brokering agreement across multiple MSP's where shared infrastructure components are used by different programmes
-Provide a consultation service to the Enterprise Technology Services organisation to pre-empt issues in the environment and assist resolution of Major Incidents
-Provide consultation service to the Infrastructure Project Management and Design functions to provide authoritative Subject Matter Expertise input into the design and project planning process
-Retain Intellectual Property within the organisation
-Contribute to continuous improvement within Technology, identifying opportunities for improvement and actively supporting change initiatives
Provide robust technology risk assessments, create mitigation strategies as required in order to protect the Business, whilst continuing to deliver change

Key Competencies
Successful candidates must have extensive experience working in an Engineering or Architecture function and be a subject matter expert.
Mandatory Skills:
-Expert level in Linux (RHEL), solid knowledge and understanding of other flavours of UNIX, particularly AIX, Solaris and HPUX, including LPARs, LDOMs and vPars, understanding of Series i (AS/400), and exposure to VMS a plus
-Excellent storage skills, in-depth knowledge of Netapp and EMC technologies (FAS, VNX etc)
-Detailed experience of SAN technologies and topologies, in-depth understanding of Brocade FC switches
-Strong understanding of Backup Technologies including Legato and Netbackup, exposure to Avamar a plus
-Solid knowledge of CIFS, NFS, FC. Exposure to FICON and VTS a plus
-Experience working with and delivering through outsource partners/Managed Service Providers
-Excellent communication skills, written verbal. Must be able to communicate on a conceptual technical basis, as well as translating the technical deliverables into the business value that they deliver.
