Responsibilities:
This key member of the Benefits IT Mid Market Leadership Team has responsibility for the delivery of software development projects in support of the Mid Market Benefits Administration business. The Benefits IT Senior Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing ~30 concurrent projects organized into 3 stakeholder portfolios and supervising a team of Program and Project Managers. This leader oversees all aspects of software development to ensure a quality product offering.
Significant responsibilities will be:
Client Focus
- Establishes and manages multi-release portfolio roadmap that is aligned with business and architecture vision and business objectives. Drives project delivery to achieve the timeline, budget, and scope required to attain business cases. Develops business cases. Challenges scope changes directly with the business sponsors and the development area leader as appropriate.
- Partners with business leadership as a primary point of contact for technology related to portfolio execution. Establishes and jointly manages governance models.
- Develops strong working relationships with Business leaders and works closely on development and achievement of strategic objectives
- Develops strong working relationships with Aon Hewitt shared services organizations and leverages appropriately
Software Development
- Ultimately accountable for delivery of multiple large, complex projects
- Responsible for vendor management including contract management, governance, interaction models, escalations and issue/risk management
- Collaborates with Benefits IT architecture, testing, business analysis, and development teams (both onshore and offshore).
- Manage the application product life-cycle. Lead IT Program and Project Managers for planning, estimating and management of the overall work effort.
- Oversees and develops junior and senior project managers and portfolio managers on stakeholder management, requirements management, resource management, project planning and project tracking.
- Establish the structure, tools and processes required to enforce compliance with software development practices; while mitigating risks using these elements throughout the life-cycle of applications.
- Identify and sponsor advantageous continuous improvement efforts aimed at enhancing the capabilities and productivity of the program/project management capability (and for Benefits IT as well, when applicable)
- Collaborates with Aon Hewitt PMO leadership.
- Evaluate and effectively deploy on-site and off-shore resources; while ensuring that that deliverables provided by each group meet standards and match specifications.
- Handle situation escalations and provides the management skills and guidance required to achieve breakthroughs and removal of road-blocks to progress.
- Stay closely connected with Benefits IT Business Unit IT Domain Leaders and architects to ensure that IT solutions are designed for deployment; capable of easy adoption and upgrades by client delivery configuration teams

- Experience running HR systems for a global organization, a bonus
- Experience with Pension, 401k or Health, a bonus.
- Experience with offshore software development critical.
- Offshore savvy and understanding of the issues and assumptions that come with running development and operational programs in multiple countries.

- A solid foundation in software development and computer science principles and practices.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering or closely related field required
- Masters Degree or higher, preferred
