Senior Quant Analyst

Role objectives

The successful applicant will be responsible for the modelling and analysis requirements of the Gas Power Trading desks in respect of managing the risk in the retail portfolio. The role involves liaising and relationship building with various stakeholders as well as working closely with more junior team members.

Duties Responsibilities

• Working closely with traders to assist in the development of trading hedging strategies around the retail portfolio. Namely hedging of non-linear exposures using various derivatives.
• Own and maintain the existing risk premium pricing models
• Develop and extend the models to improve portfolio risk management and to increase types of products traded
• Working closely with the other Quants/Developers to make use of and expand the model library
• Working closely with the retail team to assist in product innovation and assessment of customer risk management needs
• Improve the methods and processes to match the retail growth ambitions
• Assisting more junior team members in their activities and technical development

Skills Competencies

• Strong commercial acumen, combined with an understanding of financial risk and option value 
• Ability to communicate complex issues in a clear, understandable manner to customer facing business units 
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a trading environment 
• Should be capable of developing a good understanding of market dynamics and modelling methods, and apply it to real-world transactions
• Ability to explain and defend the methodology used in the development of quantitative retail tools
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English (verbal and written) is essential. 
• C# and Python programming skills
• GitHub 
• Strong ability and experience of programming numerical algorithms
• Experience in developing models for use by the business, supported by well-written and transparent documentation would be an advantage
• Database design skills and experience would be an advantage 

 

Experience

• Experience in a commodity or financial trading environment 
• Exposure to trading, retailing, or asset management in traded markets
• Experience coding in a production environment
• Knowledge of common retail energy products (fixed and flex), including embedded generation (renewable and non-renewable), Feed in Tariffs and their pricing techniques would be an advantage but is not essential
• Experience in either supervising or helping to develop a less experienced colleague would be an advantage but is not essential. 

Education

• Degree level (or equivalent) education in a highly quantitative subject.
