M+, the new museum for Visual Art and Culture in Hong Kong, scheduled to open in 2017, will over the coming years build a world class collection of Contemporary Art, Design, Architecture as well as Film, Video and New Media and is currently recruiting a Senior Registrar to join our Authority
Senior Registrar (Based in Hong Kong)
(Candidates with less experience may be considered for the post of Registrar)
You will be responsible for:
· establishing a registration system and maintaining records of accession, condition and location of objects in the museum collection;
· leading the development of a collection management database and system;
· leading the development and implementation of policy and procedures regarding insurance, packing and shipping arrangement for the collection;
· overseeing the movement, packing and shipping of objects to conform to insurance regulation; and
· working with the curatorial team and digital expertise in developing a “virtual museum”.
You should:
1) possess a minimum of 8 years experience of working as a registrar in a museum;
2) possess a solid experience of working with collection databases like The Museum System or MuseumPlus;
3) have experience of procuring insurance and preferably of Government Indemnity;
4) preferably have a recognized university degree relevant to Art History or related subjects; and
5) possess good oral and written communication skills in English and preferably in Cantonese or Putonghua.
