SENIOR REGULATORY LAWYER

Reporting to the Global Compliance Director with a matrix report to the business-line General Counsel, the firm seeks to appoint a talented Regulatory specialist to take a leading role on an increasing portfolio of growth driven initiatives. Responsibilities are wide ranging and include:
- Analysing the regulatory requirements of target countries and recommending appropriate actions to allow the firm to transact business in those territories.
- Comprehensive analysis of local legislation in relation to the client’s articulated business models, including driving engagement with local lawyers, regulators and sponsors.
- Liaising with colleagues across the business, inclusive of business-line General Counsels, to support them in managing regulatory issues.
- Where appropriate, taking positive action to overcome potential regulatory challenges.
- Analysing legislation relating to Payment Services in the UK and Europe: assessing implications for the firm; taking the lead on formal responses; communication of relevant implications, risks and action points to the business.
- Working with colleagues in the Compliance function to monitor changes in legislation and resolve queries in individual countries relating to local regulatory requirements and developments.
- Managing relationships with local legal firms across the globe, ensuring issues are identified, addressed and resolved.
Experience and Skills:
- Suitable candidates must have a good practical knowledge of payments services including the Payment Services Directive and Payment Services Regulations.
- Candidates should be experienced in dealing with regulators either in the UK or elsewhere and have experience of corporate entity structures.
- Exhibit ‘professional gravitas’ in order to represent the firm at meetings, with industry bodies and local regulators across the globe.
- Demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving and, rather than sitting on the fence, is willing to commit to clear and firm recommendations to resolve business challenges.
- Comfortable operating in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Exceptional communications skills, capable of explaining complex issues in easy to understand language.
