The North American RD Center is comprised of many business operations and is staffed by resources representing the company's interests world-wide.
The Industrial Super Abrasives (ISA) Division is actively seeking a Senior Research Engineer who will lead and follow lead in new multiple product and process development projects at the Northborough Research Development Center and communicate closely with ISA plants in US based in Chicago.
The projects will include and require (depending on the field of training, but not limited to) in-depth knowledge of metals and/or alloys and/or materials, fillers, abrasives, grinding, organic, inorganic chemistry, composite manufacturing and composite characterizations.
The selected candidate will work in a team environment and lead multiple research efforts and will essentially learn from experienced individuals in the industry developing new products. It is expected that the individual will work closely with the product management and manufacturing teams and will have interaction across a broad range of levels, expertise, and geographic regions.
50 % traveling will be required for first 18 months to the plant near Chicago.
The position will be based in Northboro, MA (NRDC).

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Strong technical background requiring a Ph.D. with 0-3 plus years in Metallurgy, Material Science, Grinding technology with a broad knowledge of the metals, abrasives, chemical, or composite industry including formulation, processing, applications and characterization
• Strong hands on experience with product development from ideation to launch and completion
• Ability to adapt to new technologies, apply knowledge to the same, innovate and strive towards successful project completions.
• Attention to detail and precision is required to manage multiple projects.
• Ability to develop new product or processes from concepts to product development and through prototype design, qualification and transfer of technology into manufacturing for the volume production of new products.
• Working in a matrix organization, the candidate will be able to communicate and interact effectively with a range of people including business, manufacturing, and research managers, process engineers, RD engineers, technicians, and operators.
• Ability to document the project accomplishments in clear and coherent technical reports and presentations.
• Creativity with a problem-solving and hands-on approach to research projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well in a multi-cultural and multi-national Research and Development Team.
A+
Experience with DOE, Excel, PPT, and project management practice
Knowledge of any of the following ceramic industry, plating, coating, mechanical engineering
Self-motivation is strongly desired with fast learning and ability to prioritize goals and objectives with minimum supervision
