Technology, Media and Telecommunications

Our Technology, Media and Telecommunications Practice (TMT) in EMEA is one of the largest practice areas in demand given continual innovation in this sector, fragmented global telecommunication markets and the need for expertise to better understand these industries.

Position Responsibilities

Senior Research Managers in the TMT Practice are responsible for managing and executing primary research deliverables for TMT clients at a senior level. They are responsible for helping to grow the practice commercially, executing on client research requests, and establishing and cultivating relationships with thought leaders and industry experts across Europe. Finally they are responsible for content leadership within the TMT practice. They maintain a

sophisticated understanding of the business models, issues, and trends in the sector. They also maintain relationships with many of the most influential investors, business thinkers, consultants, and observers of the sector.

The Senior TMT Research Manager in our London office is responsible for:

• Facilitating educational interactions between members of the GLG expert network and our clients, to permit our clients to make more informed and more confident investment decisions. Research Managers are tasked with fulfilling time sensitive research requests by analyzing client requests, and building and qualifying primary populations of topic experts.

•  Programming live meetings. Organising and hosting live interactions between GLG experts and GLG clients. This can include small elite group conversations, larger special events and events at industry conferenes. It requires a knowledge both of TMT trends as well as understanding the types of Council Members our clients are interested to meet.

• Enhancing the GLG Councils. Developing relationships with GLG’s most respected thought leaders in the TMT sectors, as well as recruiting new senior executives and leading consultants into the GLG Councils through research, networking, and direct outreach.

• Growing GLG client relationships. Developing relationships with GLG clients, who are primarily investment professionals across Europe. This relationship development will stem from in-person client meets, project execution and telephone interactions.

• Team-wide collaboration. As with any senior position in a GLG client office, Senior Research Managers are expected to help mentor and manage junior colleagues,. They also work closely with our Sales and Business Development team and other sector-specialized teams to develop customized products for GLG clients and to ensure strong commercial management of the TMT book of business.

Through live meetings, other client interactions, and high quality execution on specific client requests, Senior Research Managers are expected to cultivate close relationships with and emerge as thought partners to GLG’s TMT clients in the asset management, professional services and corporate segments.

Candidate profile:

• A degree from a top-tier university

• 3 to 8 years relevant industry experience, ideally as an analyst, associate or client facing role in consulting, investment banking or equity research

• Knowledge of one or more of Technology, Media and Telecommunications sub-sector with interest in financial markets

• Successful track record working in complex multi-task oriented team environments

• Outstanding communication skills and willingness to conduct telephone outreach to senior experts and clients

• European Union work permit preferred
