Our customers can order everything from an Xbox 360 to an organic steak, and have it all delivered to their doorstep during the time slot of their choice ndash; with as little as a few hoursrsquo; lead time. The Logistics team develops the warehouse management and vehicle routing software that makes such order fulfillment possible and economically feasible. Wersquo;re looking for a senior research scientist to join our team and work with us to take our vehicle route planning algorithms to the next level of quality. The problems are challenging and varied: forecasting geographic customer demand, predicting various random variables using historical delivery data, formulating a heuristic for the CVRPTW (capacitated vehicle routing problem with time windows) that is robust and allows expert user input, and solving the optimization problem in a computationally-efficient manner. If yoursquo;re excited by the domain, are motivated by developing technology that has customer impact, and are drawn to collaborating with operations leaders and software engineers to get your research into production, wersquo;d love to hear from you. Basic Qualifications A Masterrsquo;s or Ph. D. in statistical learning, machine learning, operations research, computer science, mathematics, or a related field. Theoretical and working knowledge of at least two of: linear/mixed-integer programming, time series analysis, statistical learning, genetic algorithms. At least five years of increasingly deep experience applying quantitative techniques to solving real-world problems. At least five yearsrsquo; experience formulating and solving mathematical problems utilizing domain-specific software and languages such as CPLEX/Xpress/Gurobi, MATLAB/Octave/Scilab, SAS, S/R, or AMPL/Mosel/GAMS/OPL. At least two yearsrsquo; experience writing code in a scripting language such as Ruby, Python, or Perl in a *nix environment. Preferred Qualifications A bias toward solving problems that have high customer and business impact. A preference for incremental algorithm improvement over green field solutions where possible. A mindset of continuous learning ndash; from other people, from the web, and from literature. The ability to communicate ideas effectively, to listen to othersrsquo; ideas, and to collaborate to arrive at great solutions ndash; whether your colleagues are scientists, software engineers, or businesspeople. Experience working with datasets in the gigabyte+ range is a plus. Experience writing production software in a language such as Java or C++ is a plus. Experience with libraries such as COIN, ABACUS, and GSL is a plus.
