Job Description:

Under the general guidance of the department director, the incumbent provides technical leadership for the research and development of innovative veterinary pharmaceutical products. Provides technical leadership in formulation development as well as manages and mentors more junior scientists. The incumbent is expected to closely interact with project teams and members of other functional departments to provide Merial with innovative and competitive new formulations and products.

Major Responsibilities:

• As a technical expert, provides the technical guidance and oversight to other senior and junior scientists to design, conduct and evaluate complex research and development activities.
• Coordinates and conducts formulation research and development activities to develop new technologies and novel formulations.
• Identifies, designs and develops new pharmaceutical projects to strengthen and secure Merial’s intellectual property and leadership position in the market place.
• Represents Formulation Development on multi-disciplinary project teams.
• Trains, develops and mentors other professionals.
• Interacts routinely and effectively with external functional areas e.g. Manufacturing, QA, Project Planners, Project Leaders and Clinical Operations.
• Prepares and reviews documents for product registrations worldwide and label claim extensions.
• Works with the department director in prioritizing projects and resources.
• Facilitates and coordinates activities with other functional areas, vendors, and tollers, as required.
• Ensures that all Corporate Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Quality procedures, policies, and initiatives are strictly adhered to by all group members.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutics or equivalent, with at least 10 years of experience with demonstrated advanced technical knowledge in various pharmaceutical dosage forms and/or new drug delivery systems. Must have excellent communications, a demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams and manage multiple projects within aggressive timelines. Strong knowledge of cGMPs and regulatory requirements is a must, as are strong problem solving abilities and the ability to effectively lead others.
