Senior Server Engineer recruitment

Purpose of Job:

Management and support of the London server estate,including file servers, virtual servers and associated storage devices. Influence key decision making for the London Server Team both internally and externally. Build and develop effective business relationships with partners, suppliers and peers. Develop services and deliver continuous improvement. Implementing strategic solutions and projects driven out of Head Office in Chicago. Ensuring that the systems/services are available and performing to business requirements. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the team meeting SLA targets for Support and Change Requests

• Develop relationships with key suppliers, partners and peers within Northern Trust and    the information services industry.

• Maintain and develop the capacity, performance and robustness of the server and storage environment including security, access control and remote access.

• Install, implement, knowledge transfer and document the infrastructure.

• Maintain the services provided in a way that reflects current industry-wide best

  practice  (eg ITIL).

• Ensure accountability for the services, quality and information in line with

  Northern Trust  and London Technical  Services key priorities, keeping  the London server team manager  fully informed of impact in relation to strategic objectives.

• Identify and utilise mechanisms by which business impact can be delivered and

measured, and use these to monitor and evaluate the achievement of service

provision.

• Ensure that disaster recovery procedures for the Server Team  area of responsibility are tested and enforced and that appropriate action is taken to investigate and resolve incidents and problems, liaising with other Technical  Services staff and Global Business Continuity Resiliency  Services  necessary.

• Provide input and manage projects for the team, working closely with partners in EMEA, APAC and Chicago.

• Promote and ensure best use of appropriate techniques, methodologies and tools.

• Contribute to the business change decision-making processes, planning and implementation.

• Perform such duties consistent with your position as may from time to time be assigned to you anywhere within Northern Trust.

• Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post and ensure that satisfactory standards of health, safety and security are maintained in accordance with Northern Trust’s legal requirements.

•Provide on call cover

•Work weekends and out of hours where appropriate

Qualifications/Knowledge and Experience

• A degree or equivalent in a related subject area or relevant experience.

• Demonstrable record of extensive and successful experience in the essential knowledge and skills areas listed below:-

HP Enclosure, Blades Physical Servers

Microsoft Operating Systems

Active Directory - Multi Domain Sites

Storage – HP EVA, IBM XiV, Netapps

VMWare -  Virtual Servers Virtual Desktop

Backups - Commvault

Email – Lotus Notes, Ms Exchange, Blackberry, Good
