My client is a market leader operating within the railway and mining industries.

With offices in Perth, Western Australia, and Derby, UK, my client develops, designs and builds advanced industrial measurement and control equipment, mostly for passenger and heavy freight railways.  Current project work is as diverse as the design for manufacture of instrumentation to automate the measurement of rail component wear (including wheels, brakes and rails), through to the automatic operation of long heavy freight trains.


We seek a Professional Senior Software Engineer to join their expanding UK team.  

Based in Derby, you will lead a small software engineering team. You will manage the software design process, monitoring the project and product developments to ensure that all designs meet quality standards and customer requirements.  You should be confident making sound decisions to solve problems as they arise in the workflow.

Good communication and time management skills are essential for working in this dynamic environment.  The role will involve effective interaction with teams of engineering disciplines and interface with the Production group in supporting test and integration.

To be successful in this role, you will have most of the following:

-       A BSc/BEng in Computing, Science, Electrical Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering with at least 8 years’ experience in software development.

-       Experience in leading a small software engineering team in an engineering development environment to produce on time and to budget.

-       Experience of the entire software lifecycle development using high level object oriented languages (C++) including design, coding, test and integration.

-       Working knowledge of software use for industrial measurement control and image processing. Experience of QNX would be desirable but not essential.

-       Strong verbal and written English communication skills

-       Excellent organizational skills, computer proficiency and ability to schedule work to meet overall project goals

-       Experience in the rail industry is advantageous but not essential.
