MANDATE

The Senior Special Accounts Analyst is responsible for underwriting and making credit/structuring recommendations on new and existing SAMU files.  This position is also responsible for effectively interacting with line Relationship Managers, Clients, Risk Management and other internal bank officers to provide information and assistance regarding the adjudication of credit through the 959s.

The Senior Special Accounts Analyst will provide analytical, portfolio management and reporting support to Special Account Relationship Managers as well as provide MRA spreading, BASEL Risk Rating analysis, DCU support, loan sales support and potential acquisition due diligence.

Credit Assessment
Provides accurate financial analysis and risk assessment of new and existing customers managed in SAMU.
MRA spreading and BASEL worksheet preparation.
Proven background in the review and analysis of complex financial statements and tax returns submitted by clients and is capable of evaluating their ability to repay, and consultation of structure, collateral and ownership.
May participate in on-site customer visits with Special Account Relationship Managers.
Documents summary analysis and/or credit decisions in loan decisioning software or in hardcopy.
Ensures adherence to lending directives/policies and procedures.

Credit Risk Management
Collaborates with Concurrence/Special Account Relationship Managers to identify credit risks and mitigants in loan transactions.
Advises and recommends alternative means of financing and/or new loan structures to enhance the risk profile to the bank.
Supports Special Account Relationship Managers with DCU/Default database input and quality control.
Minimizes Bank's risk exposure by adhering to internal credit policies and procedures with respect to lending recommendations.
Responsible for knowledge and adherence to Bank policies related to operating procedures, databases, systems and security.
Maintains and enhances knowledge around lending issues, including loan structure, collateral, foreclosure, bankruptcy and the various regulations that directly impact the Bank.

Decisions/Recommends Credit Applications
Seeks alternative means of structuring when it is determined that the original request cannot be accommodated.
Responsible for making accurate decisions/recommendations using appropriate risk management concepts.

Participate in Strategic Projects
Participates in SAMU strategic and cross functional projects.
Leads research and development of new and ongoing SAMU and bank training requirements.
Ongoing development of management reporting.

AUTHORITIES

Authority to recommend loans to appropriate individual/group for approval.
Information Access: Authority to use and access confidential information related to customer information, product and financial information.

SCOPE AND IMPACT

Increase Bank profitability by recommending sound credit advice by reducing loan losses and enhancing collection opportunities.
Improve decision making process with accurate and timely reporting information on reservations, loan write offs and other trend analysis
Create a more efficient SAMU Department by prioritization of client requirements, collateral reporting, legal documentation, DCU work, Risk Rating development and BASEL portfolio oversight

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree - preferably in a business related field.
Minimum of 5 years of previous Commercial Loan Underwriting experience in the financial services industry.
Prior Relationship Management experience, a plus.

Knowledge:
This position requires Credit Qualification.  The incumbent must possess a Working level of Credit knowledge and skills and a Basic level of Portfolio Management knowledge and skills according to the standards established within the Credit Qualification Process Policies Procedures.
Demonstrated working knowledge of cash flow, credit and collateral evaluation.
Demonstrated ability to successfully structure complex credit requests that minimize risk.
Thorough knowledge of software being utilized to capture credit applications.
Well versed in the Bank's policies and procedures.
