Job Title: Credit Analyst – Hedge Funds (Senior Specialist / Associate Grade)

Reporting: Deputy Global Head of Hedge Funds Credit

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Background
This position is based in London, U.K. and is part of a team of approximately 7 analysts. The analyst will also sit as a member of the Newedge UK Credit Committee. Close communication will be required with all team members, Market Risk team, Head of Risk and respective trading desks.

The Group’s global presence gives its customers access to more than 500 financial derivatives contracts (interest rates, indices, equities) and over 220 commodities derivatives contracts (grain, cocoa, coffee, sugar, energy, cotton). In addition to its brokerage services on organised derivative and stock exchanges, Newedge has developed a range of brokerage services for OTC products and Foreign Exchange, as well as a one-stop service that helps its clients to optimise the management of their financial transactions.

Responsibilities
This position is required to make decisions independently within the guidelines of the Newedge credit policy. For proposals that fall outside of this policy, strong recommendations based upon solid analysis are to be made to the Head of Risk, COO, CEO and/or Head Office in Paris. This role also requires working with credit teams in other geographies to ensure consistency.

Newedge’s product scope encompasses futures, options, OTC cash FX, SWAPS, fixed income securities, equities, securities financing and cash management products, plus any other products or services that Newedge may offer. Newedge’s client base includes hedge funds, financial institutions, security houses, external brokers, investment managers, etc.

This position will focus on credit analysis of hedge funds and private investment vehicles.

Major responsibilities include:

• Review existing and new client files and make credit approval decisions within the scope of responsibility. This includes evaluating credit and transaction risk profile by performing detailed credit analysis. Assessing counterpart risk and establishing credit lines (trading limits) and accomplishing financial analysis of various types of counterparties.

• The analyst is expected to manage their own portfolio of clients, which can be up to 120 Hedge Funds or 50 Investment Managers.

• Deliver recommendations to the Credit Committee for requests that fall outside of guidelines according to credit policy. Develop and maintain strong client relationships that are approved for credit.

• Managing the credit approval process by liasing with relevant departments and tracking progression of files. Performing necessary follow-up to have lines approved firstly by Newedge UK Management and then by Newedge Paris whilst liasing with legal and compliance departments as required.

• Conduct due diligence either by phone, at Newedge offices or at client premises to better understand the client’s business and add value to the risk assessment conducted by Newedge.

• Exposure Management: Collaborate with reporting analysts and the Market risk team to manage high-risk situations to protect the company. Proactively manage customer and counterpart exposure concerns. Enhance and standardize reporting tools as markets and products evolve globally.

The candidate in this position will be required to have a solid understanding of trading entities as credit counterparties and demonstrate a proven track record and experience in doing so.

The pipeline for new business is volumetric. This role requires assisting the Credit Manger to actively manage workflow and priorities.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS EXPERIENCE

Experience
Industry experience is required (minimum 3 years), with a concentration in credit analysis covering futures and options, OTC cash FX, SWAPS, fixed income securities, equities, securities financing and cash management products.

Detailed understanding of identifying and managing credit risk created by swaps, options, repos, and OTC transactions would be helpful.

Experience with ISDA and CSA documentation from a credit risk perspective.

Experience in dealing with trading entities as credit counterparts, legal structures, risk etc, due diligence, credit rating, etc, is required. This particular role will focus on unregulated Hedge Funds and regulated Asset Managers and Trading Advisors.

The candidate will need strong analytical and quantitative skills that lead to effective decision-making

Understanding of credit management principles, concepts, practices, and standards and the ability to apply them to business requests and situations will be essential.

The candidate will need to be results oriented with the ability to adapt to changing business strategies in a dynamic and fast paced industry.

Systems
Technical/Systems knowledge: To have a good working knowledge of

• Excellent communicator - role requires interaction with IT, sales, trading, senior management, credit, compliance, external vendors and clients.

• Languages: Fluent English essential.
• Able to travel in EU.

• 4 year university degree in finance, accounting or economics

DESIRABLE SKILLS EXPERIENCE

Technical/Systems knowledge
• Value at Risk Calculation (preferred but not necessary)
• Open Bloomberg (preferred but not necessary)
• Hedge Fund trading strategies.
