SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)

The Professional Registered Senior Staff Nurse is responsible for providing age appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating health care workers about healthy practices, and treatment modalities, assuring continuity of care, coordinating the care across settings and among caregivers, managing information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Senior Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process which includes the components of assessment, nurse diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation. The role also includes patient advocacy, teaching, performance improvement, leadership and professional development. As a member of the health care team, demonstrates nursing expertise, as a clinician, leader, collaborator and innovator of care and services.

SUMMARY (ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES)

The Sr. Staff Nurse utilizes advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise of a specific patient population as demonstrated in the following job functions:

ASSESSMENT - Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation

NURSE DIAGNOSIS - Analyzes the assessment data to determine the nurse diagnoses or issues

OUTCOMESPLANNING and COORDINATION - Develops an individualized plan of care that identifies strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes and collaborates with other members of the healthcare team as appropriate. Coordinates care delivery

IDENTIFICATION - Identifies expected outcomes for the patient/family

EVALUATION - Evaluates progress toward achievement of outcomes

PATIENT ADVOCACY - Advocates for the patient/family rights and educates patient/family concerning their responsibilities

TEACHING - Provides education to patient/family and other health care providers

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT / QUALITY OF PRACTICE - Provides leadership for continuous performance improvement

LEADERSHIP PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Provides clinical leadership for all staff members, exhibits professional standards, and maintains a strong team focus

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Current Georgia License as a Registered Professional Nurse. Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) Certification. Three (3) years of clinical experience with at least two (2) years of experience in assigned clinical specialty. Passing score on medication exam before conclusion of orientation. Physical Requirements: Moderate with regular standing or walking, occasional climbing, stooping or kneeling and regular lifting above shoulders. Requires lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds regularly. Requires close, distance and color vision, hearing, talking, manual dexterity and irregular hours on call. The work environment involves occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock and fumes or airborne particles; and regular exposure to blood borne pathogens, infectious diseases, work near moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemical, and risk of radiation. The noise level is generally moderate. Required safety equipment for this position may include gloves, gowns, boots, surgical masks, dust masks, safety eyeglasses, and goggles with side shields.
