The Application Architect position is the top-level applications development contributor, consultant, and advisor with broad, comprehensive technology knowledge and experience with high volume complex database and reporting systems. This person is seen as the subject matter expert.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
Technical expertise should cover application architecture, database architecture, data warehousing, testing processes and procedures, quality assurance, advanced application programming, development lifecycle, application and technical security methodologies and high availability design.
Solid understanding of the Financial Services business and how technology can be best leveraged in that industry. Specific knowledge of Buy-Side processing including analytical and quantitative modeling, Order management systems and trade flow, trade match and settlement processing, mutual fund processing, commission calculation, pre and post trade compliance, and client reporting.
Strong communication skills, superior analytical, design, and application architecture experience, extensive knowledge of the Fund Institutional and Managed accounts business in relation to solving highly complex business and technical issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Direction
- Actively seek to understand end-to-end business flows while continually striving for system optimization
- Evaluate current state and recommend/plan out future state of business systems
- Actively research, evaluate and champion solutions that will drive competitive advantage and reduce total cost of ownership
- Development of application technology roadmap in association with overarching Global roadmap
- Implement decision framework and governance for future product selection (Buy-Sell-Hold)
- Mentor associates in specific technologies
- Review work of others and communicate effectively improvements
Architectural Framework
- Participate and contribute to establishment of architectural framework for Businesses including key elements of framework:
- Business Architecture
- Application Architecture
- Data Architecture
- Infrastructure Services Architecture
- Security
- Support/Maintenance
- Availability/Failover/Disaster Recovery
Governance
- Participate in and contribute to the establishment of architectural governance across business. Includes:
- Participation in the Architectural Review Board
- Provide guidance to key change activities throughout the North American Business units. Guidance includes:
- Solution strategy review
- Solution design review
- Adoption of Best practices
- Actively engage the North American MFG businesses in understanding the importance and benefits of a coherent architectural framework
- Build support for the architecture roadmap
- Participate and contribute to the growing understanding and adoption of best practices (solutions and processes)
- Lead Architect representing Reporting team on Projects. Responsible for leading or participating in all phases of the SDLC (System Development Life Cycle from Analysis and Development through Testing, and Implementations; This includes all applicable documentation as defined in the SDLC (Systems Development Life Cycle) guide.
Knowledge, Skills Abilities
- Exhibits strong leadership capability
- Strong knowledge and experience with WebMethods/web services and Pervasive/ETL technologies
- 5 plus years of knowledge of Investment Industry - (Buy-Side, Mutual fund, Institutional)
- 5 plus years in increasingly complex technical application development roles
- 3 plus years' experience with SOA architecture
- 3 plus years' experience with high volume complex reporting systems
- 5 plus years with complex relational data modeling experience including Enterprise Data Warehouse development
- Ability to analyze and resolve the most complex application development issues
- Strong mentor, change agent, and team player
- Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- In depth knowledge and experience with Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies, project planning techniques, and project management principles
- Ability to effectively communicate to staff and upper management.
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
