Senior Systems Administrator Job in Oxfordshire, Home Counties UK
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join one of the worlds largest and most recognised institutions as a Senior Systems Administrator on a one year contract basis. This is an excellent long term contract with the high probability that it will be extended, for the right calibre of candidate.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the technical development and ongoing support of my clients private cloud infrastructure, which is primarily based on VMware's vSphere and vCloud Director technologies.
You will have extensive operational experience in VMware, vSphere systems administration. Good scripting skills are essential to this post, as is a sound understanding of the technologies surrounding a Vsphere deployment - networking and SAN architecture being two key areas in this regard.
Responsibilities/Duties
Server and Infrastructure Management - Design, installation, management and support of my clients cloud infrastructure
Development - Contribute to the development and deployment of automated systems for the management, maintenance and enhancement of the cloud infrastructure. Contribute to the production of technical documentation for a variety of audiences. Assess new technologies and their use in existing and new services.
Miscellaneous - Liaise between departments and other sections including the provision of VMware consultancy where appropriate, providing expertise within these technologies.
Essential Skills
Previous exposure to working within a similar post orientated around VMware administration
In-depth understanding of VMware vSphere
Familiarity with vSphere scripting and/or automation tools
Expertise with server and SAN hardware (both iSCSI and Fibre Channel)
Thorough understanding of IP-based networking
Methodical approach to fault-finding and resolution
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; keen sense of diplomacy
Ability to learn and react quickly when facing new problems in a customer service-orientated environment.
Desirable
Familiarity with Active Directory
In-depth understanding of other products in the VMware Datacenters product family which include vCloud Director, vCenter Site Recovery manager, vShield, and vCentre Chargeback
Sound understanding of Debian GNU/Linux and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Experience with Dell Power Connect and/or Cisco IOS-bases switches
General programming skills with fluency in a range of scripting languages
VMWare Certified
