Senior Systems Engineer (Infrastructure) Job in Miami, Florida US
The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering world-class engineering, development, administration, support and ongoing maintenance of Terremark’s network services and systems. You are responsible for the evaluation, implementation, development, optimization and ongoing maintenance and administration of these systems and related business processes and procedures as well as developing, deploying and maintaining Opsware scripts for various network platforms and technologies to automate capacity management, change management and configuration deployment.
You are expected to stay current and proficient on emerging technologies through self-study and internal training, and meet all internal certification standards for skill sets identified within the realm of responsibility.
As a member of a 24x7 customer-facing team, you are expected to be available for after-hours critical escalations and project work as assigned.
Candidate will be responsible for the following:
· Develop, document and maintain policies, processes and procedures for assigned applications and services.
· Effectively plan and actively participate in meetings related to your areas of responsibility.
· Maintain proficiency and certification on existing and emerging technologies and skill-sets through self-study, industry publications, company-provided training and vendor-provided training.
· Manage assigned projects, milestones and risks within expected timeframes and budgets. Provide weekly updates on project status, emerging issues and risks to manager.
· Provide technical consultation to individual contributors, and customers in areas of expertise.
· Provide Capacity, Configuration, Performance and Availability management reports for assigned systems.
· Performs routine tasks to maintain systems and applications.
· Define and recommend monitoring standards for fault-detection, availability, capacity performance trending for assigned applications and services.
· Develop and distribute trend reports detailing availability, performance capacity metrics for assigned applications and services.
· Optimize the availability, capacity, performance and cost of assigned applications and services.
· Coordinate production rollout and upgrades for assigned applications, systems and services.
· Monitor primary technology providers for newly-release firmware updates; evaluate updates as they apply to our installation base (required, recommended, optional or prohibited); develop, test document standard operating procedures for deployment; update Opsware command scripts and compliance scripts; and oversee rollout to production.
· Plan system upgrades by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.
Required Skills:
- BS in a technical and/or business discipline.
- 5+ years experience working with enterprise server platforms; preferably HP Proliant, IBM xSeries, and Sun.
- 5+ years experience working with enterprise UNIX/Linux systems.
- Advance TCP/IP packet analysis, using Wireshark or raw packet captures using TCPDUMP
- Experience with NetScaler load balancer and Cisco firewalls.
- Experience with Cisco routers and switches.
- Strong working knowledge of Internet networking technologies and principals including TCP/IP and DNS.
- Practical or educational background in development principles
- Proven ability to absorb, master and leverage emerging technologies.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring and CMDB technologies, and principles and systems such as SNMP, Solarwinds, HP Openview and HP Opsware.
- Broad working knowledge of Unix platforms and technologies including Apache Web Server, Oracle RDBMS and WebLogic.
- Strong working knowledge of Perl and shell script development.
