Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer
Job Summary:
The Senior Systems Engineer’s role is to assist the IT Manager to ensure the streamlined operation of the IT Department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization. The Senior Systems Engineer will primarily execute implementations of technology as well as troubleshoot and maintain existing platforms. The Senior Systems Engineer will provide second and third level analysis of problems to resolution as needed. The Senior Systems Engineer will research new technologies, prototype, and make recommendations to management. This individual will be a Jack-of-all-trades, touching all facets of the IT footprint.
Responsibilities:
- Assist IT Manager in managing the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, networks, applications, and security.
- Work with IT Manager and stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
- Direct research on potential technology solutions in support of procurement efforts.
- Keep current with the latest technologies.
- On-call availability.
- Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
Education and Experience:
- Certifications in Networking, Security, Microsoft and/or Linux platforms a plus.
- Bachelor's Degree required.
Specific Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of network technologies and server operating systems, with demonstrated experience in Linux/Unix (mandatory), and background with Windows.
- Technical knowledge of current network and server hardware, protocols, and standards.
- Deploy and manage virtual systems, storage, and associated infrastructure.
- Extensive end-user systems and application support experience.
- Background in Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory.
- Working knowledge of firewalls, access lists and systems security.
- Experience in data center operations and management.
- Expertise in TCP/IP, LAN/WAN and other network services.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products as required.
- Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.
