This position will play a lead role in the overall definition of Sallie Mae's user experience. Oversee the research and design standards, manage information-architecture resources, and serve as user-experience lead for self-assigned projects. This includes defining and managing a user-centered design process, managing and mentoring user-experience team members, evaluating business requirements, supporting requirements with research and concepts, and creating wireframes that define the design phase of a given project.
This position also must be able to effectively communicate best practices and standards to business partners, including product, marketing, and creative stakeholders, as well as technology partners. S/he will provide hands-on direction to creative services and web development to ensure interaction design is built to specification, as defined via wireframes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- 7 years of experience in interaction design and/or information architecture.
- Bachelor's degree is required. (No specific field of study is of any preference)
- Extensive experience with Visio, Axure, Omnigraffle, or comparable design tools are required.
- Proficiency in MS Power Point is required.
- Experience with Photoshop or comparable visual design tools is nice to have.
- Applied knowledge of user-centered design principles and interaction-design best practices and standards.
- Deep experience working with marketing product-development teams, and understanding and translating Business requirements.
Ability to ask appropriate questions and persuasively convey design solutions to a broad range of Stakeholders: marketing, product management, engineering, executive management, etc. - Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative design sessions.
- Demonstrated experience using web-analytics data to inform design decisions and measure design impact of user behavior.
- Direct experience with usability testing (E.g., observation and analysis, test-script creation, moderating).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet aggressive deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience designing consumer and/or business-to-business web-based products or enterprise applications, with an emphasis on complex interaction design.
- Experience in the financial services industry.
- Prior management experience is preferred.
- Experience with Photoshop or comparable visual design tools is nice to have.
