The Role

Web Products is seeking a highly-motivated web developer with a minimum of 5 years experience building large scale, highly-trafficked web applications. Successful candidates are creative programmers with intimate knowledge on the quirks of the internet (and browsers) and have the desire to build innovative web applications.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Web Application Developer who seeks a fast-paced environment and has a passion for developing high quality, innovative, and scalable solutions to challenging problems. You will be working with a group that has high expectations of themselves and you.

Qualifications:

* We want you to be a technically mature software developer. A well executed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field is about what we're looking for, but is not the only way to achieve that maturity.
* We want you to have strong, pragmatic, hands-on knowledge of browser-side technology such as HTML, Javascript, CSS, HTTP,[INVALID-WORD]s, and security. HTML5, jquery, and web video knowledge is a plus. You are a good candidate if you regularly think about and manipulate DOM objects, can explain why some browsers render web pages at different speeds, can compare and contrast sandboxing models, and are excited about both memshrink and upcoming generational GC's in Firefox. Web performance optimization is very important to us.
* You should be an expert in at least two web application frameworks. At least one of them should be a modern web stack like Ruby on Rails, Pylons, or Lift. Delivering high quality code should be easy because of your command of the stack.
* You should understand a wide variety of back end data stores and know when, why, and how to use them. We frequently trade off between implementations like MySQL, HBase, memcached, redis, and custom stores. You should also understand how these stores interact with distributed control mechanisms and how and when they can be used to achieve high availability, DR, and scaling.
* Hands-on experience building and maintaining RESTful web services is nice to have.
* Knowledge of software engineering practices required for working in large groups, such as software development life cycles, coding standards, code reviews, distributed revision control systems, continuous test/build/deploy, and production support.

Bloomberg is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or any other classification protected by law.
