The senior writer/editor oversees the writing process to ensure high quality and timely deliverables. S/he will create and oversee the service content strategy for American Funds. S/he works closely with the writers who collaborate closely with each other and the larger organization to create compelling, user-friendly and informative customer experiences for a variety of audiences. Throughout the project lifecycle, s/he works closely with the UX team, project managers, product managers and technical leads in creating and maintaining the project vision.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the creation and evolution of the service content strategy and editorial guidelines, ensuring consistency and predictability to the end user
• Work with Content Architect to develop clear, consistent nomenclature for tools and applications; collaborates on the creation of new systems to tag and organize new and existing content and site navigation
• Work with UX team to define user models and interface for new/updated features and functionality
• Writes and edits digital content that meets projects goals and end user needs for complex efforts
• Work with technology teams to uncover and understand technology requirements and capabilities as they relate to content deliverables.
• Work with other departments as needed to ensure the content strategy is effectively implemented across channels
• Ensures online content complies with corporate brand standards, web style guide, legal and compliance
• Collaborates on the development of content style guides, content and messaging strategies, best practices and processes
• Review analytics on an ongoing basis to understand user behavior to manage and shape content and messaging strategies
• Evaluates the usability of new and existing products, and makes constructive suggestions for change

Qualifications

• BA or MA in English, Journalism, Technical Writing
• 7+ years creating online/digital content
• Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork skills
• Experience in creating and executing on a content strategy
• Must have a diverse portfolio of work to demonstrate authored and edited web content
• Experience working on a large-scale website or network of sites and creating/editing content for multiple channels
• A proven track record collaborating on projects to translate complex concepts into easy-to-understand interactive experiences
• Extensive experience planning for and developing useful, usable content including instructional text, error and confirmation messages, taxonomy and nomenclature
• Passion for creating great user experiences with actionable knowledge of the digital landscape including current industry and user trends, emerging technologies, and standards
• Understanding of interaction design and information architecture with regards to content strategy
• Ability to scope, organize and execute multiple projects with interrelated goals
• Experience working in the Financial Services industry a plus
