Server Rack / Configuration Technicians

ABBTECH Professional Resources is currently seeking TWO STRONG Server Rack / Configuration Technicians to support a federal contract in Washington, DC. One position is first shift; the other is second / swing shift.

***PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CAN ONLY CONSIDER CANDDIDATES WITH AN IBM CERTIFICATION: either: 
-IBM Technical Principles
-Rack mounted Blade Specialty (different models may be acceptable).

 

POSITION DETAILS:

 

Pay Rate: Dependent on Experience
Location: Washington, DC

Start Date: Immediate after selected

Length of Position: Contract through 9/30/2012

Server Rack and Configuration Technician – Position 1

Hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday

 

Responsibilities

·         Install, configure and modify server/blade racks chassis in support of the deployment of server blade builds.

·         Take the lead on troubleshooting hardware and firmware issues on blades, racks, and chassis.

·         Follow government processes to destroy tape and disk media.

·         Support unplanned emergency requests.

·         Interact with the Server Blade Build team regularly to ensure racks, chassis and other key components are in the pipeline to support new blade build installations.

·         Interact with facility operations and resource management teams for planning support

Knowledge/Skills

·         Experienced in installing and configuring multivendor platform including HP, IBM, Linux, Windows, etc.

·         In depth knowledge of IBM AMM (Advanced Management Modules) configuration.

·         In depth knowledge of all IBM chassis switch bays including network/SAN/AMM.

·         IBM hardware subject matter expert to assist with trouble shooting issues on both software and hardware.

·         Ability to read and understand AutoCad drawings. 

·         IBM-certified engineer

Hours

·         Eight hours per day; normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with lunch break.  Monday through Friday exclusive of Federal holidays.

·         On occasion will be asked to shift working hours. (For example, work 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on a weekday or work Tuesday through Saturday.)

·         Typically works 40 hours a week.

 

Server Rack and Configuration Technician – Position 2

Hours are 2pm to 10pm Monday through Friday

 

Responsibilities

·         Record and provide bar code numbers for rack and chassis equipment and maintain accurate documentation of such in Remedy.

·         Participate in weekly change management process whereby all requests will be submitted, reviewed, approved, and scheduled.

·         Maintain documentation and associated drawings of all systems and related equipment installed in the managed space.

·         Assist in cable installation

·         Serve as a backup resource to position number 1 defined in this change request

Knowledge/Skills

·         Intermediate knowledge of AutoCad; experience using AutoCad tools to design, develop, and maintain data center footprints.

·         Knowledge of data center best practices as relates to hot/cold aisles and electrical redundancy requirements.

·         Knowledge of facility related components and their use in a data center, power distribution units (PDUs), switchgear, UPS, and generators.

·         Understanding of Remedy asset tracking tools.

·         Experience installing fiber and Ethernet cables in accordance with National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements. 

·         Experienced in installing and configuring multivendor platform including HP, IBM, Linux, Windows, etc. 

·         In depth knowledge of IBM AMM (Advanced Management Modules) configuration

·         In depth knowledge of all IBM chassis switch bays including network/SAN/AMM

·         IBM hardware subject matter expert to assist with trouble shooting issues on both software and hardware

Hours

·         Eight hours per day; normal working hours are 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Monday through Friday exclusive of Federal holidays.

·         On occasion will be asked to shift working hours. (For example, work 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday then work 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday.)

·         During the first several weeks, the normal working hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with lunch break to accommodate orientation to the job/knowledge transfer.
