• Operation, maintenance, and repair of utilities plant over the long term;

  contract periods range from 5 years to as long as 25 years.

The solutions provided to clients are always tailored to suit their particular needs.

The range of utilities covered includes steam, hot water, compressed air, combined heat and power, chilled water, process gases, towns and process water, effluent etc. The scope of plant includes utilities generation (e.g. boilers producing steam) and distribution systems up to the point of use by the client.

 

Overall purpose of role:

 

To carry out maintenance, fault finding, repair, de-commissioning and re-commissioning (electrical mechanical) on a wide range of power plant, systems and equipment, ensuring that all equipment within their control is correctly maintained and repaired, maximising plant efficiency on operation and the safety of all other personnel at all times.

 

Can undertake the role with the minimum of supervision, maintains a flexible approach, focuses on the needs of customers and effectively follows the quality processes and procedures put in place, including pro-actively identifying areas for improvement.

 

Maintenance

 

·   Is multi-skilled, so has a broad technical ability in undertaking maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment.

·   Appreciates the importance of pre-planned maintenance for reliability of plant

·   Willing to undertake a broad range of maintenance tasks

·   Takes a thorough systematic approach and effectively follows a logical sequence of tasks

·   Proactively sources information as required to fulfil maintenance of a specific task.

·   Source, read and follow written maintenance manuals and instructions including site procedures

 

Fault Finding Repair

 

·   Is multi-skilled, so has a broad technical ability in undertaking fault-finding repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.

·   Ability to remain calm and consider logical factors when approaching a fault even when under a pressure situation.

·   Sourcing information from colleagues and suppliers to aid in the fault-finding process

·   Knows when 'out of depth' or does not know the answer and is willing to seek and help and guidance, when appropriate.

·   Is able to retain knowledge and information through experience

·   Ability to think laterally in problem solving without jeopardising safety or quality

·   Can demonstrate a resourceful approach to problem solving (e.g. Finding spares from other sources/locations etc)

 

Installation and Commissioning

 

·         Ability to effectively plan the job (health and safety, spares, client liaison)

·         Awareness of appropriate regulations and the practical impact of these.

·         Is able to read, understand and follow relevant procedures, working instructions, safety standards etc

·         Able to read and ensures drawings are up-dated as appropriate

·         Sees the job through to natural conclusion

·         Effectively analyse the performance of the plant and adjustments required to enhance performance

·         Produce company documentation/ procedures to complement manufacturers documentation to maintain safe operation and optimum performance of plant.

·         Puts safe operation of plant first and foremost.

 

Preferred Qualifications/Certifications

Driving licence

Time served apprentice of followed a recognised formal training programme

HNC or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline.

City Guilds Boiler Certificate.

ACS Domestic Gas System

ACS Non-Domestic Gas System

ACS LPG

Company Electrical duty or Limited Duty Holder.

Authorised person for Permit to Work systems.

A member or capable of becoming accredited to an appropriate Engineering Council approved institution.
