Our client is part of a leading multinational manufacturing group within the FMCG sector. This market leading group employs over 100,000 employees and operates in more than 60 countries.

The organisation has been extremely successful and has been awarded some fantastic new business whilst simultaneously growing the volumes of products it manufactures for its existing customers. At this time they are looking to recruit exceptional Shift Operations Managers who will deliver increased levels of performance to the customer whilst improving employee engagement and development.

ROLE

The Shift Opertations Manager is a pivotal role in this 24 hour, 7 day manufacturing operation. They now have much higher volumes of manufactured product to deliver to a wider customer base on a time critical basis. It is an extremely fast moving manufacturing environment which presents many challenges to the manufacturing and operations team.

As Shift Operations Manager you will be the most senior person of the leadership team on site during the weekend and evening shifts. In this unionised environment you will be a hands-on leader and have full responsibility for the plant wide operation of 100 people plus agency staff. The functions you will be responsible for are Manufacturing, Assembly, Logistics, Materials Handling, Stores and Engineering.

The Shift Operations Manager will foster and drive an environment of continuous improvement and cost reduction ensuring that all quality and productivity targets are consistently achieved through the optimum use of resources in a safe environment.

You must use effective communication skills with all levels of management and staff to be able to analyse issues and effectively problem solve, thereby communicating instructions and implementing any changes that may be required.

The Shift Operations Manager will develop the capability of all resource in a structured way using training matrices and development plans, ensuring all new staff and existing staff are effectively trained to enable full flexibility of the operations team by job rotation and multiskilling.

Applicants must have operated at a senior management level in a fast moving manufacturing environment and have experience of managing budgets, trade unions and an operations team. You will have a history of driving cost reductions and continuous improvements in a lean environment. Ideal manufacturing sectors that you may come from are food, FMCG, packaging, automotive or pharmaceuticals.
