Shift Supervisor

The Shift Supervisor plans, directs, and oversees the manufacturing operations during assigned shift. This position has direct supervision of one Production Lead; approximately 20 to 30 hourly Scotts' associates and indirect supervision includes approximately 30 to 50 seasonal associates. This position is also responsible for assessing and developing departmental skill sets and managing performance and driving improvement while focusing on Safety, Quality, Customer Service, and Productivity
Key Work Performed
- Plans, directs and oversees the packaging operation during assigned shift. This includes promoting continuous improvement, ensuring adherence to all schedules (preventive maintenance, schedule attainment, line changes), monitoring uptime and performance to standards. - 35%
- Promotes a safe work environment for associates by ensuring the adherence to safety policies, assessing and eliminating hazards, creating and sustaining housekeeping standards. Document all safety related incidents; conduct timely investigations targeted focused on corrective actions - 25%
- Associate Relations: makes consistent employment decisions; maintains effective communications with associates and departments. Complete performance monitoring and succession planning for associates. Define and develop training programs for associates. - 25%
- Administrative Functions: Complete production reporting, shift report, and SAP entry. Develop staffing needs and schedule associates according to production requirements. - 15%
Minimum Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
Experience:
Three years supervisory/leadership experience in a high volume manufacturing environment.
Knowledge:
Working knowledge of manufacturing and management techniques including: Continuous Improvement, Preventive Maintenance, Pull System, Single Piece Flow, JIT, Team Building, Equipment Set-up, and General Business Knowledge
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to direct, manage, supervise, and motivate associates.
- Ability to manage production scheduling and material flow process to maximize line efficiencies while minimizing raw materials and finished goods.
- Willing to participate in and complete effective training programs.
- Excellent computer skills are required.
- Ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment.
