Shift Trader x2 recruitment

We have a fantastic opportunity for a shift trader to join our team. The team are responsible for all the out of hours communication to the assets, including facilitating the off-take agreement to Centrica for Existing Nuclear; re-optimisation of the position; trading power and gas in the prompt and management of the portfolio through to delivery and ensuring that all of EDF Energy's gas and power license conditions are upheld.

Working closely with the nominated Principal Shift Trader, you will be responsible for ensuring:

· Value of EDF Energy's margin teams is maintained;
· Portfolio is optimised to the benefit of EDF Energy as a whole;
· Shift team works with the margin team(s) to ensure that the prompt hedging strategies are executed;
· Adherence to the controls, processes and procedures to maintain a compliant position;
· Individual and team welfare and performance during the shift.

Principal responsibilities include:

1. Ensuring safety, security and environmental protection is constantly driven at the highest possible intensity in line with the company's Zero Harm philosophy;
2. Maximising the value of the spot and prompt trading positions in Power and Gas through the trading and optimisation of assets across the Wholesale Markets and Balancing Mechanism (within the risk mandate);
3. Facilitating out of hours communications with Power stations and third-party nuclear off-takers;
4. Working with margin teams to maximise the value of plant manoeuvres and retail forecast changes;
5. Promoting close working relationships with the Nuclear Liaison Team, Gas Operations and Power Operations to review and formulate short term power and gas trading strategies for each shift;
6. Maintaining a partnering approach with colleagues in the Risk, Finance and Audit functions, ensuring cross-functional learning and understanding at all levels;
7. Ensuring all Power and Gas market license conditions are upheld through good communications with the relevant network operator(s) and implementation of network codes.

The ideal candidate will be commercially focused with a numerate degree or appropriate equivalent experience; coupled with experience of working in energy optimisation, a shift trading environment or equivalent. You will have the ability to interpret complex/ incomplete information and make considered commercial decisions under tight deadlines. You will also be an effective communicator, demonstrating strong influencing skills. Technically you will need strong analytical and IT skills with a good working knowledge of Excel. Knowledge of UKenergy markets is advantageous.
