Singapore – FICC Commodities Lawyer recruitment

FICC offers trading, sales, research and finance covering:
- Fixed income - interest rate, debt and credit securities
- Currency - foreign exchange spot, forward and tailored services
- Commodities - metals, energy, environmental products, agriculture, freight, bulk commodities, and complementary futures services
The Legal Risk Management Division within FICC works closely with the business.
We are currently seeking an experienced Commodities Lawyer to join our team in Singapore. This represents a great opportunity to work in a collegiate and supportive environment, and will allow you to consolidate your career in a business aligned role.
Job duties include:
- Advising on physical commodities transactions and documentation across various commodities sectors, specifically oil, iron ore and coal.
- Involvement in negotiations for charter parties (both voyage and time) for oil tankers and dry bulk vessels.
- Providing guidance to the business on legal issues relating to the transport and sale/purchase of cargoes.
- Advising on related transactional issues including documentary credits, regulatory considerations and maritime and related disputes.
- Providing broader commercial legal advice in a corporate environment, working closely with the various senior managers, internal and external lawyers and relevant support areas within Macquarie.
This diverse role would suit in-house lawyers within the resources sector or top tier lawyers with relevant experience looking to make the move from private practice to in-house.
Key skills required:
- Significant post qualification experience (ideally 3-4 years as a minimum) working within a legal capacity on transactions across energy and other commodities.
- Experience of derivatives across these product areas and be familiar with ISDA and related documentation.
- Strong relevant product experience.
- Demonstrated experience in achieving commercial outcomes for the business.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Commercial astuteness.
- Stalwart personality, highly self motivated with the ability to make things happen.
- Ability to work independently, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
