Great opportunity For IT Certified Candidate to become a Sleep Technologist with a Sleep CENTER in the greater houston area

We are a sleep center with locations in The Texas Medical Center, The Woodlands, Conroe and Sugar Land. We are looking for top-talent to be trained as Sleep Technologist who will perform overnight polysomnography testing; which is a standard tool in Sleep Medicine for evaluating sleep-related pathophysiology, sleep architecture, and sleep integrity. A sleep technician helps patients feel comfortable during the technically driven process of a sleep study that is done in the sleep laboratory. Training is provided for individuals who have the appropriate qualities. Because of the IT functions involved in this job someone who is Microsoft Certified, Cisco Certified, etc. will be a GREAT candidate for this job.


Essential Job Functions


Clinical Knowledge Competence (after completing our training)

Must demonstrate clinical proficiency as it applies to patient care and must have the ability to carry out technical skills in a safe and efficient manner under the direction of the Medical Director, Nurse Practitioners and Operations Director. A Sleep Trainee develops competency in and performs the basics of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under direct supervision of a Sleep Technician or a Sleep Technologist. The practice of polysomnography requires thorough familiarity with and proficiency in the use of specialized instruments used to record a variety of parameters during sleep and wakefulness.

Domains of Practice

Gather and Analyze Patient Information

· Completing paperwork necessary for the sleep study.

· Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center.

· A sleep technician must have a good bedside manner to help patients during sleep studies and tests.

Testing Procedures

· Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.

· Apply electrodes and sensors according to protocols.

· Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals.

· Follow specific procedures during the testing process.

· Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary.

· Document routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.

· Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)

· Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

· Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting and be familiar with the various types of masks utilized.

Required Qualifications

· Maintain current Healthcare Provider CPR certification. Employer can provide.

· High maturity level with ability to interact with physicians, staff and the general public with strong interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work the hours 6:30pm-6:30 am.

· Working on weekends.

· Travel required.

· Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint), Adobe are encouraged. Applicants must be familiar with computers to a degree that they can function independently to perform basic computer tasks.

· Experience in using varied office equipment such as printers, scanners, etc.

· Previous record management is encouraged.

· Excellent reading, writing and communication skills.

Education/Licensure/Certifications

· High School diploma or the equivalent is required

· Sleep technicians may be required to stand on their feet for long hours

· In the performance of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemical vapors such as Alcohol and Disinfectants. There may also be skin contact with these substances as well as adhesives and pastes.

· The employee may also be exposed to infectious agents including blood-borne pathogens. Proper safety protocols, implemented by the center, are utilized for protection.

· A Sleep Technician performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general oversight of the Medical Director, Technical Director and/or NPs and PAs.


Preferred Qualifications

· Secondary education (IT Degree, Microsoft Certified, Associated Degree, Bachelor’s Degree) plus 6 months of direct patient care experience or 1 year of postsecondary education. Other types of prior work experience may be considered but the candidate must be able to demonstrate prior experience in direct contact with others in a fashion that requires good communication skills.

· Bi-Lingual: English/Spanish

· Previous medical office experience.
