No Security Clearance Required about security clearance definitions Position Description Supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment for NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage elements. Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system designs/proposals to provide design documentation and high-level requirements to downstream users/customers. Performs detail design development and modification of mechanical and fluid system installations. Generates models and calculations to define thermal environments, and associated compliance of flight hardware per customer requirements. Assists in preparing technical documents for thermal and environmental control requirements, validation and verification. Works with an assigned mentor, as part of a larger group of experienced thermal and environmental control engineers. Also will interact with other engineering disciplines in a collaborative design environment. Some travel may be needed. Works under less supervision. May mentor junior engineers as skills develop. Must be a US citizen to gain permanent access to Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Basic Qualifications For Consideration Do you have experience with thermal analysis and environmental control for spacecraft or launch vehicle systems? Do you meet the criteria described in the Typical Education / Experience section of this requisition? Do you have experience with thermal analysis environmental control or cryogenics systems for space craft or launch vehicle systems? Typical Education/Experience Level 2 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 2 or more years experience or a Master's degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 3 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information Mechanical or aerospace engineering degree preferred. Must be a US citizen and able to gain permanent access to Marshall Space Flight Center. Familiarity with launch systems and NASA funded programs a plus.
