We need a contract Smallworld GIS developer to assist with development and support of Smallworld-based Outage Management and Distribution GIS systems. This individual must have extensive experience with Smallworld GIS development (Magik).

 

GIS Programmer/Analyst:

Position will be responsible for implementation and follow-on operation of the GE GIS/Smallworld applications as part of our Distribution Management System project. The candidate will be responsible for enhancing and supporting the Geospatial Information System (GIS) component of the suite of applications that manages the electric power grid. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience with GE Smallworld, electric utility GIS/OMS/DMS applications, GE Magik, J2EE and Web Services. Their work will consist of highly complex design, analysis, development, coding, implementation, administration, and troubleshooting of these systems and their external interfaces. They will also determine the impact and consequences of system changes, builds, and installations, to ensure that all service level agreements and operational compliance requirements are met. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in operating and/or field procedures related to work

Required:

• 3 years experience in increasingly technical roles supporting GIS implementations for electric or gas utilities, including analysis, design, coding, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting GIS systems, applications and interfaces.
• 3 years experience supporting the following products or applications:
o GE Smallworld, Magik, Smallworld system administration including Version Management Data Store (VMDS).
• 3 years of experience, and demonstrated proficiency, with development and troubleshooting of J2EE, Enterprise Service Bus or VB.NET applications on Windows platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to use GIS software and other programming languages to integrate database, store and manipulate tabular data, generate maps, and trouble shoot the system.
• Experience in electrical network modeling, data extraction and transformation processes, and mapping techniques.
• Strong problem solving skills, with a willingness to take initiative and persevere through challenges.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be detail oriented and have careful attention to quality.
• BS/BA degree in EE/CS, or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Desired:

• Experience supporting real-time systems for electric or gas utilities.
• Knowledge of utility business processes for electric operations.
• Development or administration experience with security
• Exposure to electric (FERC/NERC) regulations and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with Oracle and Oracle Spatial.
