GENERAL SUMMARY:
Laureate, Inc. is currently looking for a Software Architect that is hands on to join our team of dynamic software developers. We deliver high-quality, scalable, hosted, student-facing learning applications to scholars around the world. The team members are expert Java developers who create high-quality business solutions for web and mobile platforms. The Software Architect will help to design a new, proprietary educational software solution, using open source technologies and should therefore be experienced in RD, developing specifications, and creating workable prototypes.
Laureate works within an Agile/Scrum environment, working collaboratively with product managers, user experience designers and customer application experts to design and develop industry-leading software functionality that people want to use.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
' Research and implement application development methods across multiple delivery platforms, including mobile, web and desktop.
' Creates working prototypes that fulfill functional and technical requirements in innovative ways.
' Actively participates as a Scrum team member in all phases of the Scrum process (story, development, estimation, burndowns, continuous integration and retrospectives).
' Creates complex code designs and frameworks, defining code and data integration approaches.
' Serve as team leader for software development efforts, interacting with business and development teams.
' Designs, Codes, tests, implements and maintains high-quality business applications and functionality
' Researches and implements new development techniques and technologies
' Designs and modifies, debugs, tests, and documents complex, distributed RESTful solutions that utilize SQL and noSQL database technology
' Use the latest technologies, tools, and techniques (GWT, REST, J2EE, Objective-C, XML, Web Services, EAI tools, Agile/Test Driven Development, etc.).
' Guide the development of functional and technical specifications.
' Serve as tech lead for specific projects as assigned.
' Mentor development staff in coding, design, continuous integration and Agile development methodologies.
' Guide and define standards and best practices for coding and design as well as lead design and code reviews.
' Stays current on targeted platform functionality and enhancements.
' Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university in a related field.
' Experience in software architecture for web and mobile applications
' 8+ years of software design and development experience in commercial large scale, multiplatform environments.
' 8+ years of experience utilizing modern coding tools and techniques, such as GWT, J2EE, EJB, Java Script, REST, JSON, XML, XMPP, BOSH, CSS, SOAP
' 8+ years of experience developing applications across various environments platforms, including JBOSS, Tomcat, Apache, Neo4j, Oracle, MSSQL Server, noSQL, MySQL
' Demonstrated experience with enterprise framework tools such as Tibco, or equivalent solutions
' Proficiency in designing and developing applications for mobile platforms, including iOS and Android (v3 or later) or a strong and demonstrated ability to learn.
' Experience with continuous integration tools, version control tools and collaboration platforms such as GIT, Jenkins Mingle
' Understanding and experience with Java frameworks (Struts, Hibernate, Spring, JUnit, Velocity) and Web 2.0 technologies and frameworks (AJAX, Prototype, Direct Web Remoting) is preferred
' Understanding and experience with Objective-C and development for mobile platforms like iPhone is a plus.
' Experience in packaging and deploying software across different environments.
' Experience performing as a team lead is strongly preferred
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
' Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Computer Science, Management Information Systems
