Software Design Engineer Job in Charlottesville 22902, Virginia US

Adecco Engineering and Technical, a division of the world leader in the recruitment of engineering and information technology professionals, has an immediate opening for a Software Design Engineer on a contract opportunity with a leading company in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Software Design Engineer will have a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering. The Software Design Engineer will develop, test, document, and implement software utilizing and applying engineering principles, research data and proposed product specifications to support the Finishing and Surfacing products designed by the Engineering Department. The Software Design Engineer will work closely with a small, dynamic team of engineers and will be accountable for software development activities involving embedded real-time applications. Designs may include new products, or enhancements to old products. May be part of a group that presents reports to management on engineering issues. May require some domestic or international travel.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Primary Duties

  • Develop and support software for lens processing equipment using C, C++, or other languages in Windows, Linux, or other Real Time Operating Systems.

  • Contribute to software documentation procedures, software users’ manuals and software release notes.

  • Interface with mechanical and electrical development teams.

  • Manage change requests assigned, and proactively create change requests as appropriate.

  • Coordinate efforts with 3rd party software vendors to ensure compatibility with NOP equipment.

  • Ensure NOP machine software updates are distributed to other departments.

  • Ensure that NOP software is well documented for later revisions.

    • Secondary Duties

  • Help write, and periodically revise User Manuals for all equipment.

  • Help write, and periodically revise Troubleshooting Guides for Service Techs.

  • Help train Production personnel in the use and troubleshooting of NOP machines.

  • Help train Service personnel in the use and troubleshooting of NOP machines.

  • Work with Technical Services toward a timely resolution of troubleshooting issues.

  • Support our Marketing effort with attendance at Trade Shows as needed.

  • Assume a role in our on-going relations with vendors at the request of Materials Management.

    Education and/or Experience
    The Software Design Engineer will have a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Language Skills
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or factory personnel. Ability to write reports that conform to a prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to a varied audience.

    Mathematical Skills
    Ability to apply a thorough understanding of Linear Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, to solve a variety of practical problems.

    Reasoning Ability
    Strong organizational skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. One must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
